  • I have a bike with 15mm rear drop outs, and a hub that could fit a 15mm thu-axle (dt swiss 350). Can I get a 15mm threaded axel and bolts that will fit a hub designed for a 15mm thru axle?

Currently using a 10mm dt swiss thru-bolt, with some bmx 10 - 14mm axle adaptor washer things

  • I'm a long term user of Hylex brakes, only have good things to say about them.

  • Thanks that's really helpful.

  • I'm off to Krakow for a few days. Would anybody recommend anything as a must see/eat/drink? Id particularly like to smash loads of pierogi.

  • pierogi

Was disappointing but we didn't do much research on the restaurant so might have been our mistake.

Krakow is small, so do everything on foot. We did two free tours (jewish one and old town) which were excellent.

Cheap but excellent beer, Zubrowka for wodka. Stay away from the flavor wodka's, they're good for a taste but not for an entire night.

You can visit Wawel castle for free, but there is also a paid tour. Stroll around the Kazimierz district.

If there's snow, the park that follows the ring around the city.

There's also good museums but we didn't visit them unfortunately.

Avoid posh bars, go to the locals. There was one which was awesome, I'll try to find the name. Lot's of craft beers on tap + awesome barman.

  • My ex went recently, and had to ask the restaurant for pierogi as a special order - most of the cuisine was modern European, rather than trad Polak.
I went years ago (in the 90s), as a student. At the time we could afford to hire a taxi driver for a day to take us to Auschwitz and hang about while we had a look around before bringing us back.
I'm not sure that a taxi driver is so affordable these days.
Either way, if you decide to go, it'll do little to brighten up your day.
It isn't an experience which I would care to repeat.
I'll be surprised however, if it leaves you without making an impression upon you.

  • what 10 speed bar end shifters will work with my sram GX rear mech?
will shimano work, or does it have to be sram too?

  • does it have to be sram too?

Yes. If it's a 10-speed GX RD, SRAM SL-500 shifters will work.

  • @JurekB makes an excellent suggestion. I met a mate at Katowice airport and we hired a car and drove to Auschwitz. I would highly recommend a visit there, seeing TV documentaries doesn't beat the real experience.

  • seeing TV documentaries doesn't prepare you for the real experience.

I know it's just words but I wouldn't want anyone to think it would be anything other than at least a bit traumatic.

  • Yeah. On a much less direct example I went on a field trip to WW1/2 memorials when I was in Secondary school. Whilst its less in your face, things like the Menin Gate are pretty harrowing.

I guess your response to these things will depend on your mindset but its not something I would recommend lightly.

Edit: also I googled the Menin Gate and the first ad is for Army Cadets! What the actual fuck?

  • To counter, I've heard less great things about the Auschwitz "experience" recently. I'll see if I can find a link.

    Edit: https://www.tabletmag.com/jewish-life-and-religion/297164/never-again-will-i-visit-auschwitz
On my phone it's only showing me the first half of it though.

  • I think someone had booked me onto some trip to Auschwitz. I hesitate to say I'm looking forward to it and that doesnt sound appropriate.

  • how about the TT900 ones? they're a bit more readily available 2nd hand.

  • how about the TT900 ones?

    Yes, they're fine too.

  • Bought a load of non-adhesive polyurethane webbing to wrap round some steel tubing.

Looking into the most tidy method of fastening it at each end, preferably leaving minimal lumps / no bits people could catch their hands on...

Thought jubilee clips could be a good shout, but find the worm drive a bit obtrusive

    Found these

But don’t know if they’ll be strong enough as I’ve never used them before... 🤔 opinions?

    Anyone have any other suggestions?

  • I cannot see it on your post/link, but I'm curious to know the approximate dates on which your reviewer visited.
FWIW I have heard from people who have visited years after I did, that 'things' were less than ideal for tourists, from a tactful, respectful, informative point of view.
I visited at Easter. Given that Easter is a big religious festival in Poland, the crowd numbers weren't especially high, as most people would've been doing eggy things.
I've the advantage of fluency and literacy in the language.
On that basis we dispensed with the services of any guided tours and relied on the printed material provided.
Not having been (I nearly said 'shackled to') - associated with any formal tour group, allowed us a bit more freedom to explore the camp, most of which wasn't secured or fenced off from the areas intended for tourists.
At the time, maybe 5%, maybe 10% of the total number of buildings in the camp had been converted into the then present day museum. Which had regularly refurbished galleries, well lit, clean, and all the AV and media kit one would expect of a contemporary museum / visitors centre.

Jo and I ventured into some of the other buildings, some of which (we reckon) hadn't had much (if any) intervention since 1945.
    Essentially, they were derelict.
We went into a couple of the basements.
    We didn't stay long.

I was about to sum up and relate what my feelings about my visit are, some 30 years on.
I'm not sure that there's any point in doing so.

@root - take from your visit, what it most means to you.
It isn't the sort of thing that you can say to someone 'Enjoy it!'

  • You will need a set of closing pincers to install those.

    How about cable ties?

  • set of closing pincers

Thanks for the heads up :)

Have tried plastic cable ties, the end result doesn’t look that great and it’s hard to get it on there tight enough.

Metal ones are lower profile but think you need another tool to get them really tight.

  • Anyone have any other suggestions?

    Have you considered Herbie Clips?

  • What would make my CL rear rotor move back and forth a few mm a when locked (imagine in a similar way you might check a headset). I can't imagine it'd affect performance in real terms as I wouldn't rock back and forth but it seems a bit odd. It's plenty right enough btw

  • Lockring not being tightened up enough.

  • Been checked and given it the beans???
