I also put a long piece of wood to hold the wheels in place. shares the weight a bit too.

Plus one on piece of wood. Also helps keeping wall clean if positioned for wheel to hit it rather than painted wall

Could use a matching bit of wood fixed to studs as a batten to take the weight of the pedal hanger?

Are you using those with a pedal hanger? I've used them for putting up shelves and that but I'm not sure they'll hold enough weight for a bike.

I want to hang a couple from plasterboard walls using these but I'm still worried about the whole weight of the bike effectively hanging off a lever.
