re the wheels i had to give up on recycling some old fulcrum 5 hubs as the spoke count was too low (24h i think) - i couldn't find any 451 rims with less than 28h - hubs are some mismatched shimano 105s from wherever i could find them cheap. spokes are sapim race - cut to size for me by https://www.customcutspokes.co.uk/ - never used them before but the service was really great - will defo use again. tyres are CST Conquistare 25 x 451 - 17£ the pair on ebay / amazon etc - they seem pretty light and will do the job for now
i think i may have clearance for some BMX race tyres which would be nice. in 451 rim size there's little in-between skinny 25mm tyres and bmx stuff at 40mmFit is going to be a bit weird i think - the BB seems super low - 175mm cranks don't help...i'm a bit worried about pedal strike - i might look for some 160mm cranks - bigger tyres would help too in that respect - i've got a very tall riser quill stem on its way as bars will need raising a lot..

wheels done - saddle on to see - am going to replace it with a black spoon - basket as it's really a shopper / run around.

they do - thanks!
got excited when i googled and saw sweet gumwalls...those are the 26" though :( -
• #32
yea those look like 406 wheels...not at all the same as mine

stem and bars and brakes on - stem isn't particularly graceful like a quill should be but it's functional - shifters angle also fugly i know but they feel best there

👍
Would like to see it with flat bars, or some persuit bars, but it's nice. -

Bigger tyres and a rear brake would be better but I like it anyway.
-
• #41
Awful, but brilliant
-
• #42
Agreed! Looking forward to seeing it at Hills

Bigger tyres a likely amendment in the near future. Back brake will be installed (along with chain, cassette and rear mech) when I have all the parts.

🤣 there is something quite awful about it but I couldn’t resist.
I’m slightly concerned that I might actually have to ride it..and up some hills too - I think I look a bit silly on it tbh. Am too tall, old and portly to be cool on it... it actually feels like it might be a gateway into the world of recumbents and trikes. -
• #45
I recumbent on hills really would be something!

Had two on a local HC last year, were the only ones slower than me :/
-
• #47
Finished - rides a bit twitchy but not so bad. Got some 37mm bmx race tyres on the way (thanks for suggestion) that should smooth the ride a bit

Hills next week then?

So great
Interesting project. Struggling to see what the fit is going to be like. What tyre size are you getting?
