Blow the bridges now!
When I go to the supermarket at the weekend I might buy a bit more dry/tinned/frozen stuff than usual and make sure my cupboards are nice and full in case the family has to self isolate.

I'd agree to be honest. But the behaviour so far hasn't come from people who will get the email, it's more about telling people not to put up with it, how to report it, who to contact if they have any concerns etc.

Don’t shoot the messenger, shoot the message.
Jokes like these don’t help at all... 🤦🏻♀️

It wouldn't happen like that.
2 hours at a gig, that's 7200 seconds. You'd need to be successfully infecting 3 people per second for the entire 2 hours.
You probably only interact that closely with 100 people at a gig, even that's a stretch. Still quite a spread of people but not silly numbers.
Do we know how long between getting infected and becoming contagious?
If that time is less than the length of a gig/rave then cases in London could get quite a bump up come the weekend.

I’m hoping this was said in jest. If not you might want to reconsider. Just buy what you need. It’s not like supplies are going to run out any time soon. People are selfish arseholes and it’s the most vulnerable that get left behind in situations like this. From my current experience in SE Asia I can vouch for the fact that hoarding shit is a cuntish thing to do. It’s the me first attitude that really grinds my gears atm.

I thought PM Lee handled it pretty well the other day.

Big jump in mortality now reported.... not great news. How many have died earlier and not been reported?
-
• #411
Impossible to say, and importantly the definition of a related death has become vaguer, not more defined:
" includes those showing symptoms, and having a CT scan showing an infected lungs"
Trying to find firsthand source rather than BBC for the above. -

They added in a few more deaths as well as a few (13k) infections. Mortality rates remain largely the same.

I see nothing wrong with his statement.
If he has to self isolate his family, he'd like to prepare to feed them and reduce trips to the shops. Self isolate.
China has a forced quarantine of 60 million ppl, you think they shouldn't have stocked up their pantries?
I don't believe in throwing food away so if they consume or donate it later, why the heavy words?

From CNN
What now counts as a confirmed case? The total will now include "clinically diagnosed cases" after rising numbers of residents complained about the difficulty in getting tested and treated for the virus.
Who falls into that category? "Clinically diagnosed cases" are those patients who demonstrate all the symptoms of the novel coronavirus but have been unable to be scientifically tested, or died before they were tested.
What effect will this have? The hope is that more people will be able to receive treatment by allowing doctors to diagnose them with the virus.
Case number confusion: The massive increase in the number of cases exposes confusion over just how to diagnose the virus globally.
Delayed diagnosis: Delays in diagnosing the virus could be significant. There are reports of patients waiting up to a week for their results, as the testing kits were sent from Hubei to a lab in Beijing. While there have been efforts to speed up the process, scientific testing of samples is difficult and time consuming, and allowing doctors to diagnose patients will enable far more people to receive treatment, including in several purpose-built hospitals dedicated to treating the virus in Wuhan.
Not just China: In the US, the CDC currently requires that all potential samples are shipped to its central laboratories for full testing.

Small changes in behaviour at scale cause large problems :)
If everyone goes out this weekend and buys significantly more food and supplies than they usually do the shelves get depleted and then people start to panic buy more and the shelves get further depleted causing more panic. Vicious circle.

Ergo, make sure you’re the first to stock up because once others start, things will soon go tits up.

I wonder if we will see a drop in the amount of bootlegged Fentanyl and Oxycodone that makes it from China to the West.
Heroin prices did rocket when the US went into Afghanistan...

I’m still enjoying watching people panic buy safe in the knowledge that McDonald’s has its own supply chains so I can Just carry on as normal.

I wonder if anybody is panic buying things that are actually useful such as Lemsip?

A little bit but I'm also pissed off with my local branch of Sainsbury's which on Sunday had run out of tinned tomatoes (all brands), tinned sweetcorn (they did have some massive cans of Green Giant but not all the other usual ones) and taco shells so my cupboards are far too empty.
In general I think it is good planning to have several weeks of long life food in the house (the stuff you usually eat anyway that you can rotate through) along with 6 months expenditure available in cash accounts etc. I agree this is a problem for the more vulnerable people.

Umang Vohra, managing director and global chief executive of Cipla, one of India’s largest drugmakers, said supplies for most companies would start running out by the end of this month unless China resumed production.
China manufactures key ingredients in the global supply chain for antibiotics, diabetes drugs, painkillers and antiretrovirals for HIV, although its vital role in pharmaceuticals is less well known than its production of technology, machinery and consumer goods.
It’s ok. The poor sick person is in South London. The river will protect us.
