Case in London will be fun.

I had a scary thought. What if asymptomatic person went to a gig or rave... Hot swear ppl in close confines. 1 person infects 20000. Won't take long to take all of London.
-
• #379
It wouldn't happen like that.
2 hours at a gig, that's 7200 seconds. You'd need to be successfully infecting 3 people per second for the entire 2 hours.
You probably only interact that closely with 100 people at a gig, even that's a stretch. Still quite a spread of people but not silly numbers.

Ask anyone from Taiwan, but be sure you have an least a good couple of hours to spare. You know Taiwan is not actually recognised as a country in many respects, right?
Almost every Taiwanese friends I have / have had will tell you they are Chinese, but they are from Taiwan.
Increasingly, a lot of people from HK will tell you we are Chinese, but we are from Hong Kong.
Anyway, that doesn't have a lot to do with this thread.

My (family's) masks have been shipped from Germany vis DHL, so we should find out on Firday if I have been scammed.
They are expensive, but if this means my family will feel safer, psychologically at least, then it's a price worth paying...
Luckily, I took on 3 extra days work this week that are doube pay... :-)

Face it and say it loud, the racists are here and multiplying.

I've always felt that the HongKonger self-definition was a pretty strong one.
Anyways, discussing with some ID friends at the minute and the hasty prep work for the London diagnosing service is interesting.

Yeah, don't want to derail the thread. I understand it's not that clear cut. I'm doing some reading.

Yes, it has been, but there have always been 2 troops, folks like my uncle for example, not the same one asking for masks, who is through and through Chinese Chinese and he wasn't even born in China. He would be one of those who would thank the motherbland for allowing them to do X, Y and Z etc. During the umbrella movements and the recent protests, he would have also been one of those who would curse those who fight for their freedoms and rights.
Bascially, if you are blue, you are for the Chinese gov and if you are yellow, then you are a true HK freedom fighter. Blue = colour of the police.

To compare.
Governments figures show 37 acute cases (including 27 within care homes) and 9 in every 100k of population in England - so around 5000, have been reported as having influenza (obviously many that don't get reported), that's the 4 weeks of January, down from 10.3 cases/100k for December.Storm in a D cup massively over-egged.

Worse. What if they share the drugs straw?

We just sent 2500 masks to our Chinese factory.

The GSMA have cancelled Mobile World Congress, the mobile/internet world's largest annual trade show due to coronavirus concerns. Was due to be held in Barcelona the week after next.

A emergency ‘pod’ has arrived at the wirral hospital for future cases (portacabin at hospital ambulance bay) if anyone is passing . Take a photo while you are there to annoy security. Dude its a portacabin not a space ship.

My employer has half a dozen people at a trade show this week along with 20,000 other attendees from all over the world.
-
• #393
A friend usually goes to that each year. He said that a few relatively big names had cancelled but it ultimately hinged on Samsung. My guess is that they told the GSMA they were having serious doubts about going and GSMA just decided to pull the plug.

Apparently Arrow Park hospital's infection record is so bad its known locally as a virus accy, you're admitted with one thing and leave with three. Maybe the tactic is they think Arrow Park is so lethal it will simply kill the Corona virus in the face.

And so it begins:
Economic disruption caused by the coronavirus will cost the world economy more than $280bn in the first quarter of this year and means global GDP will not grow on a quarter-by-quarter basis for the first time since 2009, according to leading independent economic research company Capital Economics.
