I've had a broken chain whip in my toolbox for the last 10 years. I think I still have "buy m4 button heads in my todo list". It's definitely never getting fixed...

I made this one a few years ago and it's still going fine.

I have a Shimano track one and yep I still have "Fix chainwhip (M4 button head)" in my todo list.
Found it... 8 fucking years ago I broke that chainwhip: https://www.lfgss.com/comments/8487249/

I've still got a 3/32 one and it's only my pub bike that's 1-1/8th which goes some way to explaining why I've never fixed it. I just don't ride fixed enough to warrant the more frequent cog changes I was making in the past. Maybe I should dig it out and fix it..

Found it... and I found another chainwhip. So I have three of the fucking things.
I definitely need to get a tool chest so I can actually see the tools I own before buying new ones.
Looks like I could probably fix this by hammering the pin back in. Maybe then a chain tool will fit over it to even it up.

Fucks sake. Fixed it in about 30 seconds.
Hammered the pin back in and then took apart my chain tool and used the retaining bolt bit to hammer the chain link back to flat around the pin.
8 fucking years that was on my todo list.

I'm going to host a "Checking off ceremony" for this todo item I think.
Does anyone have this guy's phone number?

Amazing. I always wondered what those were really for...

Brilliant!

Aaah, I was picturing about 37 of them woven/glued together somehow to cover a big hole.

Just read your old post and was gonna say hammer the fuckers in, but you've realised hammers fix everything by yourself.
-
• #1316
Yeah, it's a temporary fix really. It'll let go again if I ever have to use it on a stubborn cog. One day I'll get the M4 bolt I need but for now this will give me that vital 3rd chainwhip I really need... ;)

I assembled mine with a smashy hammer technique and it's been fine.

Corrugated asbestos?

Luckily not. The sheet next to it was, so luckily that didn't come apart.

Looks like fibreglass

What the actual fuck?
-
• #1322
Yeah haha everyone kinda glossed over it. Probably took a couple of days for someone to process that image

The wooden bit makes sense.
What doesn’t make sense is the rusty clamp that looks like it’s made of cast aluminium and the twine/wool? wrapping on the aero bars!
