From my experience Sram front mechs are crap so I’ve always used Shimano ones with Sram shifters and they work well...
Never used a triple but assume the reason the back plates are deeper is to assist the chain onto/off granny ring - beware dropping the chain onto the bb shell if you’re using a front mech for double chainrings 🤷♂️
I think I’ll just go 1x9 or 10 and buy a cheap narrow wide and maybe a bigger cassette later down the track. I know the Shimano triple works on its current bike. No point have two bikes that don’t work properly.
