  • I've never used any numbing cream before what's the deal these days?

    My experience with it was awful. Made things worse as it only lasted for 1h or so and then all the pain came in at once. Ok, I was getting my back tattooed 3rd day in the row, so I guess it was all really sore anyway but yeah, I don’t recommend it, it was dreadful.

  • I've never used it but was planning to for getting my knee tattooed later this month. I asked the artist if they thought it was a good idea and they said much the same as PawG, that it's not worth it because all of the pain comes at once later on. Having said that, I've got a friend that's very heavily tattooed (full torso, hands, face, neck etc) that swears by it, he says the only problem he has getting tattooed now is boredom. Maybe it's down to the individual or maybe some brands work better than others?

    Edit: for what it's worth, the brand my friend uses is TKTX, which you have to order from China.

  • Part of me thinks; man up if you want tattooed you should just endure it. At the same time I kind of think I’ve earned my stripes with a back piece, two full sleeves, chest and some on my ribs and calves.

  • I used tktx on one session on my ribs. Never again, just htfu. As above, doesn’t last a full 5hr rib sesh so why bother?
    It’s also worth doing a skin test as one lad I used to work with came out in a horrific rash that lasted weeks and one artist told me she won’t let clients use it as it can change the texture of your skin and make their job harder.
    That said my wife swore by it for a huge armpit-knee side piece. Was only with the artists blessing tho, she only did 2hr sessions as well so poss short enough for it to last.

    Although ribs has been the hardest it’s also definitely in the category of ‘fun’ pain in my book. Arms and back are boring and painless by comparison..

  • His skin turned to mush and stayed that colour for a long long time...
    Tktx def not suitable for all skin types.

  • "you eat pizza ships for breakfast?"

  • Please tell me that’s yours?

  • Ha, no, sadly not

  • Went to a party/clothing&zine launch at Femme Fatale last night. Was aching cool and a lot of fun. Highly recommend everyone to get tattooed there at some point. Hands down the finest studio in London. Endless list of amazing guest artists is unreal too.

  • Looking to get something along these lines but also with the constellation for ursa minor included. So would need someone to redesign it and then do the work (paid for properly, obvs). Who in London would be good to look at?

  • Parliament have a few good black and grey artists. Tend to have long waiting lists but will be worth the wait!

  • Just about to get my knee tattooed. Had the other knee tattooed by the same artists a couple of years ago and swore I'd never get the other one done...

  • Ha!
    I had the same thought when I got my knee done a few years back.

    Just composed an email to my tattooist about getting the other one done!

    What are you having done?

  • Cheeky little fox head! It's not as tart as I remember so far. Still not great though.

  • Immediately hugely swollen and impossible to get a good photo of. I'm really pleased with it though! Done by Flurick, guesting at Rain City in Manchester.

  • I had some work done by dexter kay at queen of hearts down in new cross

    He does really nice black and dot work..

  • Maybe Martha Smith?

  • Nico Lanio does dots like a boss
    @nicolaniotattoo

    I’ve had a couple of pieces from him, very happy with both. Really cool guy, real ocd perfectionist.

  • Equally ringing endorsement from me.
    Nice atmosphere whilst being tattooed as well.

  • Got an awkward lower forearm space(and elbow potentially) that’ll also need a blast over(the shitty stars) and looking for inspiration. Mainly into black work but guess I want a freehand artist who’ll be happy to work around/over what’s there already. Looking for something a bit different so if anyone’s seen anyone cool lately? Anywhere in uk or likely to guest here is fine..
    Current people I’m considering:
    @heidifureytattoo
    @graceneutral
    @lunag_ri
    @1slutriot_ink

    Any and all suggestions welcome. My stuff is a messy mix on my arms so anything goes really. I’ve actually got pretty much the same space left the other side too actually.

    And if you fancied a bit of colour I am a fan of Pedro Soos (but I have one of his so am probably bias) (also not UK based but does guest occasionally)

  • Marginally less shit photo of my fox now that my knee isn't a swollen mess.
