  • Cool. I didn't bother putting the roof racks on mine yet.

    Gearbox is really cool.

Next I have to re-build my GT3 RS as well after moving house

  • Have you seen the gearbox correction?

  • Umm... While waiting for the next Lego set I want to build I've got back into model aircraft building.

Just started a 1:72 Airfix Spitfire to remember old skills of filling badly fitting pieces of plastic.

Anyone else have planes hanging from their ceilings on thread?

  • in my quest to not look at a screen outside of work as much as possible i have done a few plastic model kits recently, including a Tamiya 1/72 spitfire, airfix 1/72 Hurricane and a 1/32 Revell Spitfire.

I have a 1/72 Lancaster bomber on the shelf and was planning to also build a Victor and the new tooled Vulcan when it drops, however i have sort of decided i'm going to abandon war planes and switch to race cars, because brexit

  • I will probably make the gearbox mod to satisfy my OCD.

  • I used to enjoy building models very much, although not aeroplanes. I just find it interesting how LEGO has tried to capture the model enthusiast market. Everything that LEGO did used to be their own designs, but around 2000 (I think) they started things like Star Wars, and they've only amplified that ever since, e.g. with sets like all those Creator car sets or the Technic Land Rover that's been so popular on this thread. Apart from Technic (which I've never bought), I do enjoy those model-like sets, but my favourite thing is still to build things from scratch.

  • I managed to pick up a Iawata Pro compressor and air gun for silly, cheap money a while ago. Nail bar when out of business and I picked both up for £50.

Problem is that the paint I bought has gone a bit solid...

  • Countach would be easier than Miura. #justsayin

  • I brought all of my old Lego and my late dad's collection today. His stuff is better then mine. Anyway, where on earth am I going to store all of this??

There is an old train set in there which doesn't work. The control unit gets power, but the train doesn't move. I am not too surprised, it has lived in a garage for 30 years

  • Brilliant! As for storage, I can easily solve your problem if give it all to me, especially the old stuff. :)

How well does your girlfriend tolerate LEGO? I'd just set up a dedicated table in the living room or wherever else you have space and store it on, around, and under that, leaving enough space to do some building, of course.

  • Dibs on the technic if you want to shift it.
I am a big fan of Lego and an equally big fan of Rick Powell.

  • Started building the Porsche 911 RSR.
It's the biggest kit I've built and have commandeered 2 large Tupperware boxes to keep the bits in whilst building.

Also I managed to drop 1 box and cover my dining room with Lego.

  • The best way to gather it up is to walk around barefoot!

I've been building my Lego like crazy all weekend, and teaching the kids to hunt for any bits that fall off the completed models.

I've got all the parts to this in the boxes, but no instructions. I haven't looked online for any yet, but I imagine it shouldn't be too hard to find.

  • I had that car when I was a kid! In my head (then, and since until I looked it up a few months back) it was an exact replica of a Ferrari or something. It's funny how basic it looks now.

  • My hairdresser tells me she has a massive Lego horde that she’s desperate to be rid of. Lots of Star Wars apparently including some ‘big’ stuff.

  • Do tell her how valuable it may now well be, and that with a bit of on-line research she might be able to get quite a lot of money for it. (I obviously don't know what it is, and in what conditions, but too many people don't realise this.)

  • I did! Not sure she wants the hassle. Have asked her to take a few photos of it, see what's there. Could offer to sell it for her I suppose; ours is a little small for Lego and I'm not sure we have the space for any right now.

  • I'd certainly be interested in taking a look at it. :)

  • Progress after a couple of hours of building and searching for bits.

I can't find one of the steering arms and I am stuck without the front bits that they connect to

  • I haven't found the gear knobs yet either

  • I've got a kit stash in the attic that I've been meaning to get round to starting on again now that my kids are a bit older; have been thinking about getting an airbrush and compressor to see whether that would improve my painting.

First up would be a B-52 that I started modding to look like the aircraft from Dr Strangelove; the plan is to display it with Major Kong dropping from the bomb bay.

I've also got a Lancaster that I'm trying to decide whether to build it up as per the box as a standard B.III, or whether to get a conversion kit and mod it as the B.II jet testbed, plus various other kits - will have to have a look and see what I have in there.

  • Keep an eye out on the Aldi offers, they some times have airbrush compressors for about 35gbp.

It's ok as a starter one, it doesn't have a tank so it is constantly refilling, the noise can be a bit annoying if you're using it a lot. I'd also get a decent gravity fed airbrush - you can get the Neo by Iwata for sensible money. Also get quick release hose coupler too to make your life easier
