  • I've been offered early 70s, Silverface Twin for a silly price....way more amp than I need but apparently they do turn down well. It's a master volume but not the 135W linear OT version.

Anyone had one and liked it? Frankly it's likely to end up as furniture that gets dragged out for a jam every now and again. No steps in my house and my back is still relatively OK at this time... :)

  • Go for it! They’ve a classic and sound great turned down as you say. If you have space, it’s a no brainer.

  • Buy it! I've had mine since I was 18, was playing my Strat through it only last night, still sounds incredible even after all the years of abuse...

Don't forget to pull the master volume out for added gronk... Volume on 10 and master between 2 and 3 will keep everyone happy volume-wise and sound as filthy as fuck... Good luck!

  • Damn...guess I'm going to have to drive over and have a look.

  • Has this been resolved yet?

  • ^ chug a sack of cocks kino alt!

    amidoindisritetc

  • Yeah - didn’t. One of the filter caps had popped so it wasn’t working. All fixable but it’s too much of a project for me right now. Had some MASSiVE JBL speakers in there....literally the heaviest amp ever, I reckon it must have been close to 100lbs!!

  • Sounds like mine, orange speakers? 135w IIRC... Best amp ever, how cheap was it?

I used to carry mine around no problem, I can barely lift it now... 👴💀

  • Put a cheeky -10% offer on the Super Champ that's sitting on Reverb at the moment... Then I stop buying amps!!

  • Got all the frets in my Les Paul! Apart from drilling holes for the bridge and pots (and then setup after paint), I think it's finished.

Although it's going to need an awful lot of sanding before it can be lacquered. Going to have to start thinking of what to build next...

  • Going to have to start thinking of what to build next...

Archtop if you're feeling confident or a pine bodied, snakehead Telecaster with Goldfoils if you want maximum radness...

  • I don't have the space to do the archtop laminations I don't think. Definitely one for the future though (requires house move and new workshop...).

Was the snakehead one the very first Fender guitar?

I went onto Slash's gear page to look at the bursts on some of his LPs. I came out with a fairly big craving for a Mockingbird - that's currently a favourite. It doesn't suit me at all though!

  • does anyone know of anyone in the UK that manufactures trem arms plz? Need a really niche one for my 80s strat as it wasn't with it when I bought it. Can go from here in the US if not https://www.stratcat.biz/4027-freeflyte.shtml

  • I'll PM you my chap's details. He's in Ireland but should be able to sort it out.

  • $400 and I probably could have got a bit off. Bit too risky not knowing anything else is wrong with it...tubes and caps alone would be a couple of hundo.

Guess I'm back to plotting my own tweed build again! From what I hear, many of the great early 60's RVG recordings used one, so lots of those choice Kenny B, Wes tones were tweed deluxe.

Plus I can hide purchases of small electronic components from Mrs Jung far more efficiently than a 100lb stadium driller....

  • Man, that is so cheap!

I'm in final negotiations with Super Champ guy, no footswitch but there is a swing card... Think I'm gonna pull the trigger, AU$1500...

  • They're really cheap here....the non-master versions are a little more but I've seen really nice early MV versions for 600 or so. 800 for a minter.

Silverface vibro Champs go for more money!

  • See, I don't like the non MV ones, too much headroom... My mate Tony played with one for many years then sold it to my old band when he went back to Oz the first time... We had to put an MV in it cuz it sounded so awful at low volumes with a Rat in front of it...

PS Bought the Super Champ!!! Bet I hate it... 😂😭

  • Ah sweet! - send some pics. Is it the little 80s blackface one? A friend of a friend years ago had one and it sounded super sweet. Lucky sod was gifted a mint 64 Strat by an older lady that heard him playing in some little village club. Good combo.

I'd prefer a MV too, although maybe not the ultra linear 135w version. Frankly, I'd go for the cheapest re-capped version, with the best speakers I could find. Will keep looking but there's no urgency.

    In a perfect world, I reckon I'd like a deluxe reverb with 2 x 10 instead of the 1 x 12.....

  • I love Johan...

  • Me too!

  • Got some work done at Matt's Guitar Service in Morayfield... Got my Les Paul and Jag back today, completely different instruments!! Took my strat in for a fret dress but decided to go for a refret instead, barely anything left on them... Tele Deluxe in next and then the old Junior...

Forgot to get Matt to look at the pickups on the Les Paul, probably need to get them dipped, bit squealy at volume...

    Super Champ on the way!!

  • Finally got around to wiring up this. Just need to do the power supplies, have a Harley Benton Powerplant Jnr (5 outputs) for it and the Helix and Whammy have their own supplies. Might have to link up power to the smallest ones until I get another Powerplant Jnr but should be fine for a while.
I'm a bit daunted by the Helix I must say. Not sure whether to run everything through the effects loop of it or run it inline? Also aware there's going to be a massive learning curve with programming it after years of using standalone stompboxes!
    Wish me luck!
