  • Character building alright!

Very windy for most of it despite being mostly a lowland route, very rainy for most of it, so much standing water, through the River Taff where it had broken the banks at one point but the highlight was going over the pass (I forget the name, heading south the main Beacons are above and to the right of you) the wind was strong enough to stop you in your tracks and the rain/hail was trying to flay you alive. Brilliant!

7:21 finish time. Be interesting to see what the drop out rate is. Saw a guy at the half way checkpoint who looked mild hypothermic. Shivering uncontrollably. His race was over but he seemed pretty philosophical about it all.

  • I love running the Taff trail

I didn't really enjoy a lot of it tbh, just felt like endless flat cycle path running along behind endless estates that all looked very similar for the second half (Merthyr to Nantgawr). I prefer to be off road so the first half was more enjoyable despite the weather being far worse earlier on.
Maybe there are normally great views across the valleys but we missed out those.
Toward the end I was struggling to up the pace but when I left the trail and went down a short hill it was enough to get the legs turning over again and I maintained a better pace for the last mile or so to the finish. I think I'm just used to more undulating terrain.
