I carry a cheapie key lock cable from Halfords that wraps around the seatpost or one of those Abus combination cable locks.
I ride a lot more DIY/Perms so I'm solo much more often than your usual audaxer.

Either don't bother or use a minimalist cafe lock.

The only time your bike's really going to be on its own is either 2 minutes outside some newsagent in a village somewhere or on something like the Bryan Chapman, sat outside a remote youth hostel in the wet for a few hours. Not a bike theft hotspot
Travellodges, bring the bike in your room
As people say, get a cheap £5 combination lock or Hiplock, I've never needed anything more.

I'll be there on a bright orange Cannondale - say hello!
-
• #10106
Nice. I’ll be on the bright green Arkose!

Just spotted that it's 30mph winds and rain on Sunday - I don't think I'll make it in the end.

I'm a Z lock fan. If I'm riding with someone I normally just join our bikes together.
Most audaxers have a supreme confidence in their bike not being stolen and don't bother with anything so a Z lock makes you more secure than just about everyone else.

Part of my plan of asking who else is doing it is to convince myself it’ll be fine and not wimp out/enjoy my Sunday not cycling.

I use one of these. Won't stop anyone with tools but prevents someone just rolling away with it. Light and small enough for a jersey pocket.

I use a BBB BBL-10. I imagine you could cut the cable with a half-decent pair of scissors, but it's very small and very light.

I use an older version of this and usually my mate has something similar and we lock them together https://www.wiggle.co.uk/abus-combiflex-2501-cable-lock/
Mostly in villages etc you don't need to bother but towns and late at night it pays to have some
sort of deterrent to stop someone walking off with it. It has been known to happen occasionally. -

I should be there on a big blue Gios fixed gear, I’ll keep a look out for a green arkose!
Although the weather is looking pretty grim

Nice! I’ll be towards the back as per usual!
EDIt: I’m bailing as trains seem like a nightmare/lots of expected cancellations and delays plus 60mph winds! Will do the perm instead!

I’m thinking of downgrading to the 100k… will take a look at the weather forecast again & decide in the Wonder Cafe tomorrow morning

Audacious!

That's what I replaced the Halfords short key-lock cable with, a 4-digit version of that.
If anyone wants a short cable lock btw... let me know... kinda like this

Blimey.
As a contrast, I did the Ditchling Devil as a DIY on Saturday and passed someone in full summer kit and even stopped for ice cream

I must have seen the same bloke. I was on the Worthing Winter Warmer and it was around Partridge Green area.

Hah, that's almost exactly where we saw him.
I mean I was running warm up the hills with 3+ layers, but not breaking out the shorts for another 2 months at least

Saturday was lovely. I was at the brewery in a tshirt for a while!
Sunday, the car was moving sideways with no input from me. -
• #10124
With you in the car?
That storm was much stronger than we thought.

I know, right!
I've got a couple of those zloks. Use them in the local supermarket if I stop on the way home.
Perfect. All sounds like normal procedures should be fine. Thanks
