  • How accessible is it to someone with no knowledge or skills of modelling/electronics?

Fine - everything is pre-packed and unless you get the really race stuff it's hard to connect it up wrong. The batteries need a bit of TLC but that's about it.

Plenty of hobby stores will sell you a bundle of everything you need to get going. Probably not the best route in because they compromise but if you just want to dive in you can do worse.

Or you can go down the rabbit hole online learning about all the kit before pulling the trigger.

  • Yassss that is an orange!

  • @Howard thanks for the reply!
I’ll have a good read over the next couple of months and if I’m still keen I might dive in.
Having no rc skills I’d want something that could take a knock or two lol.

  • Don't go down the rabbit hole! I've gone from buying a pretty basic Tamiya kit (DT 02 Sand Viper) to buying a pretty tricked out race buggy in less than a month. Must admit I did race buggies in my mid to late teens, so have some previous experience.
Have a look, do some research, I'd say stick to Tamiya to begin with, very user friendly, and the build manuals are so easy to follow, plus we're always here to guide (help you spend your money).
Be warned, it can get quite addictive!

  • Wow! Gonna post my next shell to you if that's ok?

  • like anything as easy or as hard as you want it to be. basic level kits are a doddle to build, and oftenb come with motors and speed controls. One things Tamiyas have going for them over over brands is that they are very straight forward to build. Even the more complex ones like the Egress come woth well laid out and easy to follow manuals.

of course, buying a ready to run is even easier, but for a lot of us the build is part of the fun.

  • Polycarbonate on after a quick session with the Dremel.

  • What car is that?

  • Egress 2103. kit code 58583.

  • Are buggy’s a little more resilient than road cars? I kinda want an escort van if such a thing exists lol

  • Looking good.

  • Also, this has gripped me. My pa worked in auto logistics his whole life and I spend a lot of time in yards...

  • I've yet to solve the cable management problem. It's such a mess inside. Mostly my own fault not wanting to directly attach the speedo the motor.

  • I have seen the bullet connectors soldered straight to the motor, so you can still unplug if needed.

  • very nice mate!

cable are always an issue, zip ties or heatshrink are my weapons of choice.

  • not really, both are pretty sturdy tbh.

for a van an M-class chassis or one of the TT/TA chassis is probably the best option.

  • Unpainted driver aside, almost done. Had some creases in the decals over the body's curves which were doing my nut in. Thought long and hard over giving them a quick blast with the heat gun, fearing it could do more harm than good. Turns out it was definitely worth the risk, smoothed the little fuckers right out.

If you look carefully you can see where I've not managed to get enough paint in the edges of the spolier which is a bit annoying. Realised that while I was doing it but unfortunately emptied the can before I could fix it.

    Just ordered Egress wheels.

  • Nicely done. Wings have always been a pain in the arse to paint. Guessing you're not struck with the pink orange combo?

  • Not terribly averse to the pink, just reckon black will compliment the body better. It's a combo that works on the bike, and I'm pretty certain that wouldn't benefit from pink rims.

At least by buying rather than dyeing it's not a permanent change.

  • Very nice!!

Heat gun or a little water with a drop of washing up liquid are perfect for smoothing the decals out.

  • Am going to pick up a Tamiya Racing Fighter, black edition is launching soon, comes with black shell and a few hop ups and is only £90. (DT03 chassis, 2wd)

Reckon it will be the gateway car to a world of expense and fun.

  • I got such a lardon fo a Thunder Dragon right about now.

Problem is I know it wouldn't convert to / handle lipo v well.
