  • Not really. The All City Spacehorse now has a 40t chainring. It’s used pretty much for commuting, so 40x11 it’s fine if I really need to go fast. Which I don’t. I might chuck a 44t on there today though.

The green Paconi has been built to ride mainly on gravel with lots of climbing. I’d rather have gears for that and spin out descending down hills. Although I am considering going 2x9 on it and putting a 34t and 50t on it, but it’s cheaper to buy a single NW chainring than a top pull derailleur. At the moment it’s dropping chains with that non-NW chainring. I’m going to put an old derailleur on there today to stop that until I order the 34t NW. I have also ordered some mini-v’s for it. Unfortunately I won’t be using the cool cable routing of the Sim Works stem, but I’d like better braking.

  • Fair play. I just did a first ride on my Muddy Fox with a new 46/30 double, and those rings feel bang on. They're paired with an 11-40 cassette as well.

I've retired canti's for the foreseeable future; much happier with v-brakes now. Mini-v's should be good as well.
