    I want something like this

    Micro Nationals from way back

Worm club meet bout 11 yrs ago

I remember this track, was very silly

  • Love how nobody made that first corner in the last video.

  • I really wanted the Super Astute, but felt it had too many weaknesses, so the Top Cat came out on top, then enquired on Tamiyaclub forum about a Dn01, which had sold unfortunately, but a guy in France messaged me with an offer I'd be stupid to refuse, it's probably only a chassis and shocks away from being 2 201s.
Now to decide on servo and motor/esc combo, looking at Hobbywing for motor/esc and a digital metal gear servo (not sure which brand yet).

  • Mate, when the good guys we’re driving it was epic.

A Final from the last year I ran the national series

  • Awesome deal!

  • It is. Just gotta wait for him to get back off holiday, Friday, then post it, so maybe around the 21st of this month I should have it.

  • First rule of RC Club....

  • about a Dn01

Yeah I was looking for a Zahhak or whatever they were called. Dumb name but the chassis looks alreet.

  • Yep, that's what I originally enquired about, albeit a heavily hopped up one, so much so it was almost a TRF.

  • Went down the rabbit hole and found this - obvs. not Tamiya but super interesting design. Came from an article about the Avante and the author used it as perhaps the only buggy that has come close in terms of bonkers ambition and (over) engineering.

Front wing! Carbon Fibre prop shaft! Laydown Shocks! Spiral ball diffs! Oh my.

  • Do you have a link to that, rear shock placement in particular is interesting.

  • What scale is that?

  • 1/10 ... I think!

@jontea it’s a Predator X11 - there’s bits and bobs about them on forums but the company is - unsurprisingly- defunct.

  • Just noticed the steering linkage between servo and front end, maybe they should've tried to keep it within the confines of the chassis (although it is a little crowded in there).
Will have a read anyway, for geeks sake.

  • Never talk about rc club

  • Yeah, UK based iirc and never got traction out side of here and a bit in the US. The idea is solid, but there’s a reason all buggies look the same now, we’ve reached a point where we’ve nailed all the major things and it’s just marginal gains.

  • Had a quick look at rc10s website, interesting designs, and stunning details to quality, the 2wd Vega is wonderful. Maybe too niche though, and clearly too expensive.

  • Reckon you build a Sand Viper in the time it took me to do a basic cut out of the Egress body and cowl.

Some kind of file & sand paper to neaten things up?

  • Yeah, but an egress is more complicated, and I hate doing bodyshells, so don't make em as tidy as I could. Having said that, I did bother to smooth the edges, just used very fine sandpaper.
Had a thought for my next shell, I seem to suffer with not seeing the cut line on unpainted shells, so as there's a protective film on the outer surface, I'm gonna go over the cut lines with a fine black Sharpie, then take my time (for a change).

  • Some kind of file & sand paper to neaten things up?

File wrapped in fine sandpaper is indeed good for the straight bits. If you have a socket set, wrap a socket in sand paper for inside curves e.g. wheel arches and it’ll make a neat job. A Dremel with a big diameter drum sander also works if you have one.

  • Cheers! Was just looking at the Dremel...

  • Other than making a bit of a mess around the front suspension (which will hopefully be hidden) I'm pretty pleased with this for a first effort. Particularly the paint, after reading that metallic could be tricky.

  • Ok, so I’ve never been into rc or anything(a few lads had nitro cars at school tho).
How accessible is it to someone with no knowledge or skills of modelling/electronics? I’ve built airfix kits as a kid, guitars and all sorts of diy and prop building over the years but never looked at cars before.

This thread has got me hooked and I’ve no idea what I’m looking at lol
