If you think you can use it, then yeah, no worries.

No, it got properly jammed under the runners. He was lucky it wasn’t his foot.
Funny thing is, it’s his partner’s bike and he’s not actually told her yet. Possibly because he had her Trek ebike stolen last year too. I suspect she won’t be best pleased.

This is what happens if you’re not quick enough picking your folded Brommie up at the top of an escalator
To be honest that looks pretty scary, at least the guy was unharmed. I'll be carrying mine up escalators from now on.

You’re thinking of the Leeds Bike Coop in Edinburgh.

Velorution just sent me an email offering the 'electric blue' Brompton.
I think they didn't understand that for some of a certain age, who might not filter the search results, this means something else...cough a friend

Thought this had been asked before, but cannot find anything via search.
I know the hub is a sealed unit, but is there any benefit from adding a drop of oil?
Reason why I ask is that I’ve been getting the odd bit of slippage when in 1st and 2nd (i.e not 3rd which is gear selected when cable is loose). Yes, the indicator chain is adjusted correctly.

• #8133
You got a non worn chain/sprocket?
If its slipping, oil will do nothing to remedy that.
-
• #8134
How old is the hub? I’ve seen some wear out fairly quickly, I’ve got one here that I’m about to open up that isn’t selecting 1st at all. We shall see...

It bloody well does! I had a gummed-up hub that responded very well to a healthy dose of oil. SA always recommended a teaspoon of oil every couple of thousand miles via the oil port back in t’day.
-
• #8136
If the hub is slipping, it wont. If the hub if completely full of gunk etc, a tad of oil might get you a few miles use before further issue.
Best to open it, service it, and rebuild it.

That was all new a couple of months ago.
-
• #8138
3 1/2 years / 7,000-ish miles
Always put into gear 'nicely' though, as in backing off the pedals slightly as I engage gear. Well, almost always nicely.

I have had a look for a video on opening it all up, do you know of any decent ones knocking around? It's the standard BWR hub.
-
• #8140
Hmmmm, no. Maybe i could make one...
-
• #8141
Do it! When I last looked on YouTube etc. there wasn't a decent BWR servicing video; the only stuff I could find was strip-down videos of an ancient AW, and a really poor-quality French video with some bloke in his pants doing a partial disassembly of a BWR.
-
• #8142
I have found a similar partial disassembly video now, made by someone with weird toes. I might try taking the freehub off to see if it’s something simple like the pawls sticking. All two of them!

Any recommendations for Brompton wheel builders in London? I’ve worn through my rims...
-
• #8144
Rear wheel slightly loose cones/wobbly sprocket.
3 speed Brompton, not too old.
Anything I should be concerned about? -
• #8145
Post it to Somerset ? ;)

• #8146
Both?

Arup Sen in Sydenham.
ETA - He also works out of a bike shop in Walthamstow.

• #8148
Hi
Yes, both! -
• #8149
Which 3 speed hub?
-
• #8150
Sturmey Archer 3 speed.
Done a bit of research; I think the cones need tightening.
Ouch! Was that just from falling over, or did the wheel get caught in the top of the escalator somehow?
