And he's an officer in the Navy, which from my understanding plays well with Americans in general. It's not like the 'liberal' side of the equation is less obsessed with the military.

I didn't say it's a guarantee for anything, I said it 'plays well'. Just as him being gay will not play well even with quite a few Democrats... but that alone is not what is holding him back.
