  • Yeah, I use caffelatex at the moment though so I just want a squeezy bottle for it, for now.

Got some Stan's valves from Cycle Surgery today. Not sure how keen I am on fitting them before the weekend but I have to balance getting covered in tyre jizz with having a deflating tyre half way around a 200k. #fuckingtubeless

  • I think you should do it in the name of data.

  • Went from GravelKing 700x43 to WTB Sendero 650x47 on my Kepler Disc size small mainly for scary toe overlap and for riding most of the time on mud. I wish I did it since day 1

  • If you go to Boots or something like that you could get some of those travel liquid container things that you put sun cream in when you go on holiday.

    e.g.

I agree though, #fuckingtubeless is a massive pain in the arse

  • Muji might also have some small container that could fit the bill.

  • Valve is faulty, and doesn’t need sealant.

  • I use Orangseal. I just bought the Stans mini bottle for the mini bottle. It’s perfect. The nozzle fits in a valve and it’s the right for a tyre.

  • Yeah, for now sealant is holding enough air to keep it rideable. I'm going to risk taking it on this weekend's 200k. Best way to learn how to fix stuff on the road... is to fix stuff on the road.
I'll take the new valves with me and if it goes to shit I'll install them on the roadside. That's how I roll (or not, given my tyres will be flat) .

  • I'm wary of mixing sealants, that's all. Some are meant to be fine together, whereas others don't work at all.

Googling says Stans and Caffelatex aren't compatible (Stans natural latex, Caffelatex artificial).

I guess if I need to add sealant though, I've probably lost whatever I had in the tyre so it might not make any difference, practically.

  • Just poor the Stans away and use the bottle for whatever sealant you choose. My point, which I’m making dreadfully, is: it’s the bottle that you need not the contents.

  • Ah, yeah, but waste... I can't be doing that. I'm waiting for an appropriately sized condiment bottle to become available. The big tomato sauce bottle was a little bit overkill. ;)

  • How many bottles you need? I have a few empties at work.

  • One or two I guess. One for audax, two for ultra? Where's your work?

  • I'm making the rounds dropping stuff off today and have a couple to spare. You about centrally today?

  • Nah, out west today, soz.

  • So, how did they do?

So, basically, the didn't get used :S

  • Your wheel exploded?

  • No, my partner's.

  • Ah, bad luck.

  • It's kinda weird though. The tyre is still losing air but it seems to settle at a pressure that's still rideable, unlike when you have a leaking tube that will get to an unrideable pressure and stop losing air. So I'm still riding the 650B bike without having swapped the valve.

  • Could it be out of sealant? Mine did that at first, the wheels had been put together then left alone for months. Tyre would sort of hold air but needed pumping up every other day (would still be rideable though). I put more sealant in and then it was fine. Now the front is doing it again but I ran out of sealant and didn’t bother buying more so far.

  • It didn't start holding air at all until I added sealant. I added 50ml just the other week when I decided to try these wheels again. The valve wiggling might've lost 1ml at the most. I did think about adding more sealant but I was going to wait for the tyre to go fully flat, which it hasn't done and now that I have new valves I'm going to try installing one of them first then worry about sealant.

  • I'd like to change my banger commuter, in to a special, off road, capable machine with a front fork that has rack mounts.

Currently on 700c. Thinking of going 27.5 wheels with some monster semi slicks with a new 700c fork.

Does anyone have recommendations for fork, tyres or wheelset. If you have any for sale, even better.
