  • What sort of lighting were you planning on using? No super-sure, but think this version only powers lamps (not for charging other devices as well) which would make for good commuting I'd reckon.

  • 6v 3w seems plenty to me

  • I think that's the same model as my old one - it's done a biiig tour and a load of commuting miles over 4 years and is still going strong.

  • Yes I have it on my daily commuter. Heavy but functional and strong

  • Thanks guys!

Will dig deeper into this topic when/if i order a new bike

  • Tubeless QR dynamo wheel and The Plug III for sells - https://www.lfgss.com/conversations/343052/

  • I have this for my cargo bike. Has not been an issue for my mate who's done the same

  • I've bought a dynamo wheel with a shutter-precision pl-8 hub. Everything works but I feel like there's a lot of resistance. The wheel stops turning after 3/4 rotations after I give it a spin. While cycling at 30km/h I feel some vibrations in my handlebar. Should I sent it back? Have been looking at videos and all dead sp dynamos make a clicking sound which mine does not.

  • Sounds fine to me. The wheel not spinning after 3/4 rotations is normal, and you'll feel the hub drone through the bars if you're running high pressure and/or rolling on super smooth tarmac. Should be less/not noticeable otherwise.

It's all due to the hubs internal and how a dyno hub works (#magnets)

  • Thank you very much! First dynamo hub and no real cycling friends who can check it.... Might lower the tyre pressure a bit!

  • I would buy. But not convertible to boost?

  • boost is a state of mind

  • Only £40 off, qr only, can’t convert at all!

  • i see it now. boost haze.

  • Best cheapo commuter disc hub (ideally 3w)? SJS used to have some Shimano ones for about £20, but they seem to be no more.

  • Out of those now, best sjs have is the Jtek one at £55/60 odd?

    Or £30 Shimano - https://www.sjscycles.co.uk/dynamos/shimano-dh3n31bl1qr-6v-3w-dynamo-front-hub-black-32-hole/

  • Ta - that Shimano's rim brake not disc though, right?

  • I have a 6 bolt sp pd8 QR hub with a few miles on it but still a few more in it for £20 if anyone’s keen on trying out dynamo.

  • @Klar will most likely take it if its 32h

  • It is 32h and black

  • I'll have it if Klar doesn't?

  • Need a collective internet sense check while troubleshooting dyno/light issues with my SP8/Exposure Revo to figure out which manufacturer to contact...

Both have been in storage for ~3 years. After digging them out, plugging everything in and getting out for an ~100km ride, I'm only getting 2 of the 4 LEDs powering up in the Revo.

I've unplugged everything and taken a multimeter to the hub. I'm getting resitance between the two contacts and 0 between the contact and axle which suggest the wiring in the hub is ok. Giving the wheel a quick spin with the MM set to '20v AC' the contacts are reading up to about 15v and then reducing as the wheel slows.

Am I right in thinking that this voltage is normal even though the hub is labelled 6v3w?

Also checked cable and voltage/resistance is the same so it's not issue with connectors.
