Who hasn't taken a chance on a cheap(er) steinhart or Seiko? We know the risks. We know we might lose. But sometimes, a £250 steinhart seems like a good bet.

Hardly seems worth faking a cheap watch though for a few hundred at most - the incentive is obvious when a good fake costs <5% of the real deal.

seems like he was a regular at scamming ppl...
-
• #41630
The obvious exception being high volume cheap watches, like Casio and Seiko, which are faked all the time.

I mean, it seems pretty common for people with a ‘good reputation’ to accept only wire transfer/BACS. Just look at most of the sellers at Omega Forums. Regularly requesting £15,000+ via wire. Which I do get. They’re private sales people and PayPal would rinse them for fees/it’s probably not that feasible to use a third party payment processor for someone only shifting a few watches a month.
However, 29k AUD was way below market price and despite his ‘good reputation’ aka he’s in the watch community’s public eye, the idea of sending that much cash with no protection is beyond me.
What a total cunt.

Maybe its an elaborate scheme setup by Rolex, with months of investment to get people to only purchase direct from AD's!

to get people to only purchase direct from AD's!
Which is impossible, as they don't have any stock, ever.
-
• #41636
Yeah but they’re really obvious and no-one is buying them thinking they’re legit (Shirley)?
Interesting about steinhart, will have a read!

If it can sell at a profit, like made for cheaper, then it will be done. If they can make a good fake of steinhart or any watch, they will.
-
• #41638
That thread is about the Steinhart being a fake of a big brand (not a fake itself) but I take your point.
-
• #41639
Not really a thread on fake Steinharts - more a thread saying that the Steinhart is a "fake/knock-off/homage" Rolex
-
• #41640
Why the hell would someone copy a Seiko. 😎
-
• #41641
blocked at work so had to guess.

• #41642
to sell... at a profit... Because Seikos done all the rnd... and they can use cheaper components (read: rubbish components)
-
• #41643
ah makes sense. I was intrigued because I couldn't see how the economics of faking a Steinhart would work - most decent replicas aren't much cheaper...
-
• #41644
most decent replicas
That's the key...
Here is an $80 homage of a Pepsi... What stops them just writing Rolex?

Are you trying to link to the ‘fake’ £200 eBay sarb017?
They probably aren’t fakes, more likely very badly reconditioned originals. Borderline Frankensteins.
Edit: ah - fake 033. For $50. Yeah that’s fake.
