I got phonebanked last night by momentum, election style, pushing RLB hard
-
• #453
was there a lot of 'our policies were popular' drivel?
-
• #454
Awkwardly, none of what she said about Rob Marris is true, as recorded in Hansard
-
• #455
I got on a number 3 bus at Westminster with Angela Rayner, and some twat was chatting her up and trying to impress her with tales of his achievements on the rugby pitch. She handled him quite well... csb

• #456
Rikki?
-
• #457
He would have wowed her with water polo antics
-
• #458
^^^^Long-Bailey doesn't come out of that well, but Marris' explanation, that the research was his, not Labour's, still sounds petty and vindictive and not the actions of someone putting a Labour victory above all other considerations.
-
• #459
Why did she think it was a good idea to rake over past internal disputes at that retirement dinner? Factionalism never dies.
-
• #460
that the research was his, not Labour's
But again, the professionalism, on both parties behalves.
Anything I do at work, that went near a work computer and would be paid for ('properly') by work's expenses, belongs entirely to my employer. The whole thing smacks of such amateurism

So we are supposed to just forget about the last 3 years when large parts of the PLP actively worked against the left of the party in favour of a Tory government. Why couldn’t they end factionalism when Jeramy became leader?
I’m going to get behind RBL I think. KS has no chance of winning over the leave voting areas that turned blue at the last election.
-
• #462
What they need is discipline, and lashings of it. Wing Commander Starmer is my man. If he can beat the jerries he can beat Boris.
-
• #463
Do people forgot that the division in the PLP was nothing compared to the Conservative Party's near complete implosion? They had 25 grandees of their parliamentary party quit or get booted and many came back as independents.
JC and Co's complete lack of political skill in exploiting this golden opportunity is there for all to see.

Mostly just me struggling to articulate why I didn't want more of the same.

KS has no chance of winning over the leave voting areas that turned blue at the last election.
Though Corbynism was unable to win over those leave-voting areas, so unsure why you'd think that Corbyn's heir would be able to do so with more of the same.
I'd hope that there'd be an assessment of whether the leave voting areas are more likely to vote for Starmer's Labour compared to all those swing constituencies are likely to vote for Long-Bailey.
Fairly or not, there's absolutely no way people in Nuneaton (for example) will vote for her if there's a whiff of Corbyn / Momentum about her.

Tories always put party before everything else when it comes down to it. Some labour mps wanted us to lose the election to get rid of Jeremy and get their party back. Another reason I’m probably going to support RLB, I’m enthusiastically in support of open selections.

Yeah that does worry me, she does need to distance herself from Milne and Corbyn. I used to be a supporter of momentum and met a lot of the organisers during the election, they all seemed really friendly, teachers, nurses etc. Their ballot to pick RLB as their nominee changed my mind, this was obviously from the top and totally against my political views and they have now lost my support and it has somewhat tainted my opinion of RLB. What a mess.
-
• #468
Hard agree. Nothing i've seen would suggest she has the political deftness to counter this ('corbyn is 10/10 etc')
The truth is, and my inner lefty idealist is pained to admit it, there is a conservatism that runs through the British electorate. This conservatism gives, whether fair or not, KS a distinct advantage given his (considerable) mainstream achievements.

she does need to distance herself from Milne and Corbyn.
It's unfortunately too late for her to do this - should she win the leadership contest her 'media journey' is already written.
RLB, chosen heir of Failed Corbyn...
RLB, annointed personally by Corbyn and Momentum...
RLB looks to continue 'Hard Left' policies of previous Labour losers...

Nandy is continuing to impress. I am impressed.
-
• #471
Yep, Nandy or bust for me. Insightful, thinks before she opens her mouth and is a good scrapper when required.

RLB it is then.
-
• #474
KS is running away with the CLP noms, Rayner even more so in the deputy race. I dont think there will be too many surprises in April at this point. Hopefully as many candidate as possible get on the final ballot tho.
Burgon's peace plan is LOL. Balloting LP members for war.
-
• #475
Jeremy Corbyn's constituency has chosen KS over RLB
Rayner is awful. Like some kind of agro throwback Union leader from the 80s
