Any of the ones with the butterfly design are now under the extended warranty program. So if it breaks you can get it replaced for free. That said I know they're a major downside.
It's a 4 year old laptop but considering they've only just updated the design it's not exactly out of date. The current ones still use an i5.
I'm not saying that's the best deal on one you can find, I linked to that one because I bought my latest Macbook from that shop and I know they're not a scam. To buy an equivalent one new with 16gb ram and 500gb hdd it's £1,879.00.
A modern i5 is easily twice as fast as that i5 though (for multithreaded stuff at least). There was a hefty jump in processor speed with the 8th generation (that laptop will be sixth generation, Intel are currently on 10th generation) where a lot of them ended up with double the cores.
