My 10-12yo midrange Samsung would disagree. As would my OH's 7yo budget Acer.

The Mac thread seems to be permanently full of people complaining about shit breaking or going wrong. Granted there's some sampling bias, but still the idea that Apple still make premium quality products doesn't ring as true as it did in the 00s.

  • Really? It seem to me to be more about people asking advice on how to update very old Macbooks because they're still working fine and the screens haven't fallen off.
I'll accept not all Apple stuff is built the best, the plastic unibody ones for example, but they're so much more solid than any Windows based laptop I've ever used. And the fact they make the OS and the hardware means the performance degradation over time is so much less. I'm far from an Apple fan boy but for laptops they're unbeatable. Desktop is a different story.

  • Ha! True there is a lot of that too.

I think a lot depends on what you compare them too. My dad's got a 13" Lenovo mac look-a-like and that's perfectly solid however many years on.

Ultimately tho they're really expensive. So they should last and be decent.
