rear hub cassette/block removal

Posted on
  • amongst a box of odds and ends I've bought is a vintage large flange rear hub with the 5 speed block still firmly screwed on, no rim or spokes so I'm not sure how the spokes were removed as the large cog is bigger than the flange........my problem is how to remove the block (I have the correct tool) as I don't want to damage the hub, are there any tips from knowledgeable forum members? I'm not worried about damaging the 5 speed block as I have a spare when I get round to building up

  • Bunch of nails hammered through a block of wood that match the spoke holes in the hub. Clamp it in a bench vise, apply the hub, chain whip the block off.

  • ......now there's a thought! will try it out thanks
