  • I definitely expected worse. Thanks.

  • I can't imagine there will be, but is there anywhere that sells a single front or rear full size guard? I need 20" front and 26" rear suitable guards (cargo bike - 2.3" wide tyres) and I'd rather not buy two pairs only to use half of each.

  • Recumbent shop

  • Good shout, there's one in town come to think of it.

  • I'm trying to find some mudguards that would fit a 28c wheel and through a set of 105 5800 caliper brakes. Bought some kinesis fend offs and had to hacksaw out sections to get them to work, and they still don't work very well. I think in reality the brakes are my problem.

Any recommendations for caliper brakes that come in black and would improve mudguard fitting?
Shimano BR-561 look like they'd do the job.

  • Any idea if these will fit a 2018 Specialized Sequoia?

It seems this bike has some weirdly oriented "ports" for Specialized Dry-Tech mudguards but also normal mudguard mount holes, maybe

  • Anyone know what's gone on with the PDW mudguards? Seems they're unavailable at most spots that come up on google. None on amazon or ebay either.

  • Condor not have any?
Ever since hacking a set of inappropriate sized pdw fenders I switched to velo orange.
Not as matte but cheaper and do the job as well.

  • Only the 30mm ones I think. Plus they're pricy, last time I bought some they were sixty summat quid.
The velo orange ones look a bit finnicky, I want something I can fit and remove quickly.

  • Hmm to adapt another bike-related saying for mudguards:

Cheap; good; easy to install and remove - pick two.

  • Don't know what size your after but if you can deal with polished silver they are reduced at condor - https://www.condorcycles.com/collections/portland-design-works/products/portland-design-works-full-metal-fenders-city

As for the velo orange being an issue to install. Never really found them an issue. And once done no harder to take off and put back on again than any other.

  • That's brilliant, thank you. I only saw the 30mm ones the other day, and it looks like the polished ones are seventy quid which is bearable.

Still gonna go for the PDW I think, I've used them before and they're easy to fit and refit.

  • The PDW fenders haven't really worked out, I've started fitting the rear and it's more of a faff than my other guards, plus the polished finish looks a bit knacker on my bike.

Any recommendations for guards that're easy to fit/remove? Are Raceblade Pro XL's any good?

  • Any mudguard that is easy to remove is probably not much good as a mudguard.

Having said that, I had raceblades a while ago and they were better than nothing, but they won't keep your bike and drivetrain clean.

The crud roadracers are pretty good but they won't stand up to repeated removal and re-installation.

  • I install and remove my SKS longboards pretty much every week. First installation is a faff but remove/reinstall is a 10 minute job (on a bike stand). Don't see how other brands would be any harder than fit/remove the 7 bolts holding the mudguards.

  • Well, there you have it, mudguards are a piece of piss to remove and everyone else is making a big deal out of nothing.

No problems with mudguards on any bikes here folks.

  • After all the measuring, trimming, cutting and grinding (not to mention going through the tickle trunk to find the right spacers) to actually install fenders, I really don't understand how taking them off could be a problem: I mean, it's 3 or 4 bolts after wheel removal right? Same again for re-install.

  • I always found the difficulty comes at the chainstays, it's fiddly getting tools in

  • Put mudguards on everything and leave them there

  • I’m mudguard-curious: is it more complicated/fiddly to get the wheel off and on if you puncture?

  • Yes if the mudguards are mounted to the axle. More yes if you have track ends.

Normally I’ll try and fix the puncture without removing the wheel at all, which side steps the issue
