I'd get a nice shiny cane creek one that doesn't say KING KING KING KING KING on it if it was my cash.

It's true that I do kind of want the Chris King one because it's Chris King. I wanted one so much as a teenager, it's a little bit of wish fulfilment. Like when I bought my Fender guitar, which I rarely play. However, no one seems to doubt that the quality is anything other than first rate do they, and I don't imagine I'll ever sell it on so...
Shimano and Campagnolo - probably not for this build. The bike has neither brand so far, it's all Japanese NJS stuff (Nitto, Sugino, MKS) except with Phil Wood hubs, cog and BB. I think about all this stuff way too much, it's daft. Nothing against either brand by the way, my fast bike is all Shimano and my tourer all Campag.

The heart wants what the heart wants.
They come up on ebay every once in a while and go for 70 odd quid. keep an eye out

A Cane Creek 110s is no less bling than a Chris King, it's just far less obvious to the masses.
@StandardPractice you wouldn't be the first one to buy a CK for such reasons, me included.... Japanese frame?

Diamant, Belgian.

The Cane Creek 110 is a fancier more discerning choice.
Could always save some money and get a NJS Tange headset
-

That's what I have already but it's indexing badly and I thought I'd go for sealed bearings this time.

The Cane Creek has a humungous stack!

However, no one seems to doubt that the quality is anything other than first rate do they...
I've always had a bit of a lust for a King headset, never been willing to splash the cash though. Got one recently in a bundle with some other stuff I bought at a decent price and...I'm underwhelmed.
Mine is an older threadless version, from before the licence on the wedge system ran out so has King's vastly inferior 'scuff washer' system, I've bodged a bearing cover from a £5 unbranded headset to fit.
Beyond the fact it has 'King' emblazoned around the cups it's no better than any other sealed bearing headset I've used, including the £5 one.
Why anyone is paying King prices for 44mm headsets thatare totally hidden from view is beyond me.

Jazzy Bearings?
Personally having had kings before, I actually prefer Hope headsets these days.
But my longest lasting and still fine after nearly 10 years is an FSA Pig. I took it apart recently to see if it needed greasing, and it was as good as new (nearly).

Yes, so much! Have about half a dozen of them, some in frames others sitting waiting.
Also really like Hopes, got three of them all currently fitted.

DA headsets are very good, had them on all my 1" threaded frames until I made the move to thread less. NJS too. Low stack height. With the mix already going on I wouldn't mind a DA

You've still got this!
Forum history.

Yeah! I could never get rid of it. This is what it's looked like for the last few years:
But it's getting a new top tube and metallic champagne paintjob. And a Dura-Ace headset.

And a Dura-Ace headset.
Thread closed! Looking forward to see the end result however.

Thanks! I just couldn't justify the cost of the King one. Actually, that's not true, it was more that it doesn't suit the bike somehow. Here's what it'll look like, ish:

They have actually discontinued them so they definitely will become rarer :( The other good thing about the CK headset is that if you changed from a threaded fork to a threadless one you only needed to get an conversion kit and not a whole new headset!

This and the GripNut is amazing.

Bring this thread back to life I’m looking to buy a CH 1inch griplock headset, total cycling are outta stock but says ships in 2/3 days ?
Found one on this site which they have in stock
http://www.efinvitations.co.uk/chris-king-gripnut-headset-1-silver-sotto-voce-by-chris-king-nrilohfvs.html?search=Chris%20kingBut has anyone ever brought something from this site before ? Kinda seems to good to be true especially everywhere else these headsets are out of stock or unavailable.

Check the footers...
And buy a DA, Record or 110.
I'm after a 1" threaded King headset, definitely silver, preferably GripNut, preferably new. I just went to order one for a new build but it has become immediately clear that they are rarer than rocking horse shit.
Can anyone shed any light on why this is? Better yet, does anyone have one they can sell me?
Thanks! :-)
