Then get at least hydraulic rim brakes.
[Fry.jpg]
Guys, my brakes are fine. LX V brakes, you set them up then forget about them for ages, they're plenty powerful unless caked in mud, which this bike never is. The rear rim is ceramic D121 and has lasted 20 years so far, the front one has 5 years, it's not a touring bike, it's a shopping bike, I was just asking about a stiffer frame.
Anyway, good shout @Tijs, I think the LHT might be quite similar geo to my current bike, hopefully a steeper HT, and probably more common 2nd hand than a Sherpa.

Do you really need a super stiff frame to do the shopping, and ride at great speed at the same time?
Not trying to troll.

Used the redundant bosses to take the front rack as it wouldn't fit on the new forks.
I'd been thinking about this and wish I'd left the canti bosses on my bike for just this. It works nicely.

Well I hate doing lots of little shops, so tend to load up. It's not a case of need but I'm keeping my eye out for something on eBay. Saying that the Saracen is a great ride with minimal load, it's just with 2 large overloaded panniers and a big bar bag it gets a bit sketchy. 1/8 HT would probably help with steering flex too. It was originally bought as a cheap alternative to a LHT so maybe I'll just look for one of those now everyone seems to be ditching rim brakes.

An Intec M1 would be a cheap alternative.

Oh yeah, good option.

I PM'd you on the Thorn Sherpa.
-
• #22692
Yeah thanks, I PM'd you back - what's the size?
-
• #22693
A medium long, like a 54cm with a taller headtube (long = flat bar rather than drop).

Built up the Pipedream I bought off here last year into my ultimate commuter/bikepacking/adventure bike and I'm loving it.

That's 26" for ya (on a huge frame with "skinny" tyres).

• #22697
Damn, probably a bit small I think, going to try and get the full geo chart from sjs though.

• #22698
That looks a lot of fun.

Headtube length is more like a large/56cm, what sizes do you usually ride?

My insane down hill skillz
Yeah like a second hand LHT is worth it since they're insanely tough (and extremely stiff when unladen).
