Does anyone have any experience with chopping and welding an insert into a steerer tube to make it longer? (like the attached but for a road bike)
I am surprised to have not found a thread about this yet to be honest.

Isn't the steerer removable? The one in my Revelation is.

This is a very clever solution. Seized seatposts was something I came acros a lot a couple of years back. For me the big problem was always how to prevent the seatpost from twisting when in the vice. Wish I had known this back them.

Yes @HHC I have done loads of extensions. There should be good photos of it in my cp.
A tight plug fit and skilled welding / good penetration is required.

I did it on the DIY bmx cargo. Exactly as @Hulsroy says, but I wanted to keep the thru-steerer front brake cable. That, and very unskilled stick welding followed by a bit of angle grinding.

If I buy a 142 hope hub with an XD driver, will I be able to run a 10 speed cassette on it? Can you switch the driver out for 10s?

You can buy different freehub bodies, but they ain't cheap if you're thinking of getting the XD one to save some money, I think the axle and end caps should be fine as is.

Looks pretty good! I broke my chain whip the other week, this is giving me some inspiration.

The storm blew away a section of the roof of my shed yesterday. Used some bottom bracket cable guides to cover the holes. So far so good.
