How about fly to Klagenfurt (Sleezyjet). There's a train station 10 minutes walk from the terminal (Klagenfurt Annabichl Bahnhof) that will take you to Villach and then on to Hermagor/Nassfeld, which is up there in the mountains - you can even go to Italy, too. From Villach you can get a train to Salzburg without any problem. OBB website is your friend.

I have a wedding near Salzburg, Austria in August. Figured I'd fly out a bit earlier and spend a few days in the mountains - where would be good to get to by train from Munich or Vienna that I can then head on to Salzburg from?
