Building a commuter/city bike using a knackered 80's Peugeot fixie road bike as a starting point. Planning to keep frame, fork, stem and bars and bin the rest in favour of modern components.
Much of the project is undecided at this stage but it MUST have a hub gear, owing to my enthusiasm for them (apologies if this isn't the right place for this..)
Ideally I would like the weight of the older Sturmey Archer 5 spd hub (1090g) with the ratio spread of their current 5 spd (25% difference between each gear), but alas I very much doubt that the two can be fused together somehow. Any thoughts on this, or any other hubs suggestions, would be gratefully received. Also considering their 4 speed, nice and light with consistent ratio changes but has a weird direct drive first gear (as opposed to middle gear as with the others).
For info - I currently run a Genesis Day One with an 8 spd Alfine hub, and a big Dutch lump with the classic 3 spd Sturmey. Previously I have run Brixton steel road frame with 7 spd SRAM hub.. which was very nice until I knackered it :O/ I am therefore looking for something new.
Don't worry about formatting, just type in the text and we'll take care of making sense of it. We will auto-convert links, and if you put asterisks around words we will make them bold.
Tips:
Create headers by underlining text with ==== or ----
To *italicise* text put one asterisk each side of the word
To **bold** text put two asterisks each side of the word
Embed images by entering: ![](https://www.google.co.uk/images/srpr/logo4w.png) That's the hard one: exclamation, square brackets and then the URL to the image in brackets.
* Create lists by starting lines with asterisks
1. Create numbered lists by starting lines with a number and a dot

For syntax highlighting, surround the code block with three backticks:
```
Your code goes here
```
Just like Github, a blank line must precede a code block.
If you upload more than 5 files we will display all attachments as thumbnails.
