Porte getting mocked for not winning enough when he wins. Sure. I can see how that would work.

Is there a highlights show on Eurosport?
-
• #25204
Some weird channel is showing it. Maybe Eurosport too

I think it’s the hype around Porte, and he hasn’t really won any big races recently.
His power numbers and power to weight must be top 5 in the world, just can’t quite covert the wins.

There's Hype around Porte?
If you mean he starts a TDF with the potential to win it, yeah he probably does. You said yourself his W/kg should be up there. Actually how many has he crashed out of?
-

Actually how many has he crashed out of?
Two. 2017 and 2018.
-

he hasn’t really won any big races recently.
Tour de Romandie in 2017, Tour de Suisse in 2018. I think we must understand either the word 'big' or 'recently' differently.
-
• #25209
Yeah, so recent. It's not like he had a chance in 2006 and fucked it. This was only two years ago.

It's a pro-cycling thread on here. TDF highlights on ITV is it, right?

Richie Porte’s decision to be in good form for the TDU has an adverse effect on his July form. Discuss.
-
• #25212
Porte is just like all those other Aussie riders who never win anything big. It's not as if any one of them has ever won the Tour de France, after all.
-
• #25213
It might have positive effect on his bank balance? List his results. If he was off last year and crashed out of the two before that, we're a bit low on results.
-
• #25214
I know that's what you want. You don't have to ask twice.
-
• #25215
That's clearly a Swiss rider.

I think you’re right, I was just trying to provoke people. He’s a very good rider, but I see similarities with Thomas, in the sense that he’s had a lot of bad luck which means he’s never managed to prepare for and ride the Tour without setbacks.
I don’t think he’ll ever win it, but I’d have said the same about Thomas until 18 months ago.
-
• #25218
hehe I mean I'm all for a bloke who keeps trying and finally cracks through for a win. Much more interesting than the genetic freak (or massive doper) that just smashes everything like there's no gravity.
I've never put money on him to win. So there's also that.
-
• #25220
It is difficult to see him winning given the new talent. I think 2018 was his year sadly.
In term of aussies, there was a greater sense of inevitability with cadel, he had come much closer a number of times.
