  • In this day and age I dont think it serves any premier league team well to be proud of having an all English/British team. I think you're on a little shaky ground to positively assert something like this given that the the Premier league is a beacon of sporting globalism. But I guess it favours all those who love a 'keep britain british' etc. statement.

I recall Paul Robinson's article (ex Burnley keeper) about Dyche's regime at Burnley which smacks of 'Britishness'. I still hope one day Burnley will actually play a non-white footballer soon in the first team.

I don't buy into all the bullshit talk about Burnley being plucky underdogs, unfairly treated, locals against globals. They're a decent, well run football club that can play good football occasionally. They are still a little bit odd and eccentric.

Hate going to Turf Moor away not bacause of the purported style of football but some supporters are fucking backwards with the racism. It is not surprising that Burnley fans were reported for alleged hate crimes, including racism, more than any other club in England and Wales over the past two seasons. It is unfair on here when Tottenham, Chelsea and Millwall supporters get flak when in reality the stats show Burnley - you dont always hear that in footy chat.

Is this apart from Dwight McNeil playing in every single game this season and Lennon, Koiki and Goodridge on the bench?

I think it's largely come about because we're owned by some not that rich, (relatively) local businessmen rather than international conglomerates or dubious people trying to whitewash their reputation through sport and tend to live within our means rather than throwing money at it.

That's true, although the numbers are low enough that it isn't really statistically significant (17 fans over the last two years) and it's reported crimes, not convictions. I'm sure some supporters are fucking backwards with the racism but I wouldn't say it's any worse than a lot of other places I've been to (and a fair bit better than some).

On the positive side though I've seen people being told to fuck off and being reported to stewards for being racist. Things are improving and hopefully that will continue.

In reality, one of the main reasons most of our players are English is we have a shit scouting network. It was pretty recently that someone was recruited to expand it and, so far, it hasn't resulted in any signings.

  • Ironically the only real evidence of bigotry is in your words.
