How does one check this out without having to actually speak to a human being?
-

NVM. Adding my Dad costs -£61.03 on my £400 cover. Amaze.

I added my Grandad to my insurance for the same purpose and he flat out refused to drive my shitey Polo at Christmas

You're right about the Fabia, for a 2005 1.4L on my tests or newly qualified, no no-claims insurance, it comes to only £2,041.76 a year. That's one of the lowest I've seen.

Actually, £360 down to £300. Are you "old" enough, do you think? Wanna be able to drive the mighty Panda?
-
• #52732
I'm so old I knew God when he was a boy, ~£500 for a 3.0 Z4!
-
• #52733
I'm 37 and have had my license since 2000, but the Panda is my first car and only got it 2 years ago.

This technique was suggested to me by a friend who worked in insurance - "keep adding older drivers until the premium stops going down" is a direct quote.
-
• #52735
Tried to add my brother and got a "please call us response".
-
• #52736
When we renewed a few months ago, we had to tick a box agreeing that we weren't adding people who would not be regular drivers at pain of being uninsured if we did.
I think the industry is not appreciative.
-
• #52737
Hah, that's interesting. I'm with a specialist now so didn't do this as I didn't need to.
-
• #52738
That seems a lot! Our 3.0 e61 is £390 and we’re in an expensive (not London) postcode. I guess the Z4 is probably worth a bit more now...

Remember reading about these in Max Power back in the early 90's along with the Skeete Motorsport kitted R5 Turbos and Dimma kitted 205's. Halcyon days.

Wow. Pricey. Ours was 1.2l and a smidge over £1k the first time we insured for Eb when she was a new driver.
We had black box and that made a big difference - have you checked that out?
-
• #52741
Yup. That's the 2k price. I've not found any insurance under 2k for me with a new license, no no-claims and a London address. I don't even have anyone I could add to bring it down.

yes very much this. spoke to four different crowds re the little fiat but when I explained my other vehicle was a push bike it was a no go.
I have kinda got a second ordinary car now. it's main use will be to open me up to wider insurance options for the fiat. already grabbed a couple of hundred quid back from admiral now it is garaged and not in London's famous London anymore.

Surely @Bainbridge is a jaguar driver

I think Citroen or Renault. something with a French horn in any case

I read Honda Jazz mentioned a couple of pages back so the following is for info.
Recently we've been getting a number of cars in for (insurance) repair that have had their cats stolen. 3 of the last 5 have been Honda Jazzes. It seems they're quick to nick and the cost has written off two of them. -

Which is why slamming your vehicle of choice on coilovers is the environmentally friendly choice.
-
• #52748
He's a lexus driver
-
• #52749
there was a period where this was really common on Mercedes / VW vans, i assume because they're at a standard ride height where you don't need to jack them up and seemingly quick to remove

I think the speed which you can cut through exhaust pipe with one of these also contributes.
Handy from a cost saving perspective, but come at a cost in biscuit consumption.
I would note that neither my, nor my girlfriends parents, want to drive any of the cars I've had/have.
