I'm not quite sure what to do
Basically out of London and too busy to do much about it until Thursday but I really doubt anybody is going to buy that as it is now.I'm sure the guy is mega reasonable and will just give it back to me..
I know it's not the most amazing bike but I'm quite attached to it.
Will let you know how it goes...

It might be worth deleting all references to the make of the bike in posts in this thread until then, as thieves do search the Internet and it's happened before that they've got nervous. Whoever this is may well have remained unnoticed if they hadn't revealed what it was before the rattlecanning (well, what it still is), so that's a distinctive searchable feature that we don't need in here for the time being.

That's a good enough reason in my book.

It's really shit mate, I would guess that someone who is willing to do all that for the sake of £100 wont be the most reasonable of characters, the paint is just insult to injury.
I'm also out of London for the next week, would it not be a good idea for someone hackney based to arrange a viewing and act as a potential buyer and try find out a little more perhaps a phone number and a face, please be careful though as they might be the angry type.

Really hope you can get it back safely.

i have exactly the same problem. My green and silver panasonic that was stolen (2 pages ago) turned out to have been painted gold (including tyres and crancketc lol ) and sold for £30 and a rock of crack...
Some people are anabsoute joke, the only way I know this is that the bloke who stole it is now in prison and a local told me. no way of getting bike back ever.... :( -

apparently though, depending on how long the spray paint has been on there, and whether or not your original paint has a clear coat, you should be able to rub it off very slowly with rubbing alcohol or some solvent

I'm wondering if this thread would serve everyone better as a members only thing?
Like Oliver has said, it doesn't take much for a thief to come on here and check updates.I'm probably missing a good/obvious reason why it should be in general..

The London Fields area is notoriously bad for bike theft so I'm not surprised.

On one hand I'd say yes for the obvious reasons but then people trying to find their stolen bikes or looking here when looking at what they suspect to be a stolen bike wouldn't be able to check

Happy to go with somebody to view it btw

Seen on Chapel market, Angel.
Not sure if stolen but the guy only walked the bike (FG) and was extremely upset when I just said the bike were niceSorry about the quality, didn’t want to get too much in his way.

Nice work, but isn't it written in big letters on the plaque above that?

I guess that depends on whether you see this as a community resource or a wider resource for bikes Vs thieves
