Would the chainring be more of a likely culprit? Whatever the cause is, the slipping is happening at the cassette/ rear DR.
To clarify, it’s not skipping, rather it is slipping/jolting forward, as if the chain has slid over a tooth or the rear hub has rotated, happening when I’m applying a sudden peak in power/get out of saddle. I’ve had something similar happen when the cassette lock ring hasn’t been tightened enough, although that’s not what’s happened here.

Maybe you’re right. I’m sure a new one and a chain will sort it. Do get it sorted though, I went over the bars once after getting out of the saddle to pedal hard and my chain slipping in the way you describe. Cranks spun with no resistance and I chucked myself off the bike essentially. Broke my helmet, glasses and saddle annoyingly.

Looks a bit worn but I doubt it would cause the chain to skip, some of the teeth are supposed to be profiled to aid shifting.
