Nah, some people are just lying cunts, I've caught both of these guys out before... More performance reviews and PIPs!!
I'm a pretty OK boss, I treat our guys like I'd expect to be treated myself... Lots of communication, checking how they're going, etc... On a side note, my boss is about to get the push, this will make all our lives much easier... He's a lovely man but a useless fucking manager...
And everyone is depressed and abuses substances here, it's a very puzzling thing when the standard of living is so high and paradise is right on your bloody doorstep... Devolution right before your eyes...

Generally when you have a situation like that, with high rates of bullshit excuses, it is because the company makes them feel like worthless pieces of shit or there is bullying behaviour somewhere.
People rarely call it in because they are workshy.
Also, any signs of depression or other issues like alcoholism or substance abuse with any of these people?
