• XC race bikes are probably fair buys used TBH - either owned by actual racers who know their kit or people who bought the wrong bike then hardly used it. Lots of scope for haggling because few people actually want them.

  • Annoyingly private sellers don't take B2W vouchers.

    Anyway, I have since realised that the limit of £1,000 has been lifted from B2W purchases, and a £2,069 bike equates to £100 a month for 12 months, so I'm considering stretching to that to get something decent and moderately future proof. The cheapest carbon specialized epic HT or carbon trek procaliber is £2,250, which is slightly above my ideal budget, but I could get an alu specialized chisel comp for £1,500 or alu trek procaliber for £1,400.

    Are there any other sub £2k bikes worth considering? Bike2work seems to have a lot of local and online shops, but planet x, ribble, canyon and sonder are not on the list.
