  • with audax lock?

  • Kinda dumbfounded at the brazenness of this. What happened?

  • Only carry a mini d for mine if I’m going to the football, and want to lock up outside the ground.
Do stand next to it on the tube/train as someone walking off with it whilst I’m sat somewhere else gives me the fear!

    What did you do?

  • I use a lock on the train for this reason. Only something superlight though, think it's this one.

  • Im sorry I think thats mine?

Have taken the moulton to Brighton a few times and put the bike in the bike park and used the straps to secure my bike. Yet people seem to undo the straps, even tho there are spare straps and move my bike or just carelessly put their shitty bike next to my unmarked bike.

  • I was facing away from the doors about two rows down, with headphones on, and just as the train was pulling into the station, I heard what I though was that unmistakable noise of a Brompton being dropped from 3-4” high up. I turned round, could see my bike where I left it, and a bloke looking very sheepish, who got off seconds later. I thought nothing of it until I went to get off myself, and the bike has clearly been moved, with the lock at a completely different angle to how I’d positioned it.

  • Absolutely this. After having two bikes and a car stolen in my time, I’m paranoid about it. Even when locked I’m still always glancing up to check.

  • Yeah, pretty much. A £5 lock from Halfrauds.

  • Anyone got a Joseph Kuosac Saddle, would you recommend?
I really like the look of them!

  • Deffo recommended.
I bought one for the Brompton and found it so comfortable that it went straight onto the fixed commuter, while I ordered a replacement for the Brompton.
FWIW the saddles on my three road bikes are Fizik Arione - just to give you an idea of the shape which seems to fit my aerosol -The JK is of a similar form.

  • Smart for the cost, pretty comfy if you like a road styled saddle!

  • Interesting. How do they hold up to be used as a handle? I keep thinking I should change the saddle on my Brompton to something more Arione like, but am concerned that it won't stand up to be used as a handle. (I use my Brompton to travel from south-east London to Cambridge three days a week and it gets carried quite a lot on that journey).

  • Does anyone make a doodad (3d-printed or whatever?) to slot into a normal saddle's rails and provide a better handle/more comfortable underside when shouldering? My B17 is supremely comfy under my backside, but is a bit of a pain when carrying the bike any distance.

  • It’s not quite as good but it’s still alright

  • Bye bye @amey

  • Is it possible to fit larger wheels in a brommie, 18 or 20”? Without mods that is

  • I've run mine with 355mm ERTRO 18" wheels and it's been fine. Of course the 18" description is a tad misleading given that the rim radius is a mere 3mm larger than the 349mm wheels used on a Brompton, but it is nonetheless technically an 18" wheel. Even if it measures much less than 18" in diameter.

  • Yes, as you are technically correct in real world terms 3mm is nothing so I don’t class that as 18” as you mention. Vincent @ Eerder metaal has now got 406mm x30 and an 18x 2” or so in there with his self built parts!

  • How long roughly should the shifters on a 6-speed last? Use the bike 3 times a week for a round trip of 30km. I had the bike serviced today and they replaced the left shifter (+ - one) as it had become faulty after nine months. Just wondering if I should bite the bullet and upgrade to a non-Brompton hub gear system if this is going to happen regularly.

  • The hub is fine, the shifters are diabolical. Brompton know it, “are working on a resolution”

Go 3 speed with Sturmey shifter or alfine. ;)

  • Today’s fun.
