53cm Basso Ascot Columbus Multishape Tubing, Viewing / collection near Woolwich Dockyard, SE18 5NR

These frames date from about 1990. all the main tubes have different profiles, top tube is square / diamond shaped, seat tube is conical, wider at the BB, and the down tube is kind of teardrop shaped. I love this bike, it's beautiful and unusual, but it's a little small and I don't ride it.

    Seat tube 53cm c-c, 54cm c-t
    Top tube 54cm c-c
    Head tube 122mm
    Rear spacing 126mm
Takes a 25.0mm seat post (I have one I'll throw in if you want it)

    Frame + tange headset + post £deleted

    25.0mm post:

  • Nice. Been after one of these.

The cable guides seem to be missing from the toptube. Is there any corrosion here?

Is spacing 126 or 130? I presume the former and you ‘stretch’ it to run 10sp?

Any pitting / rust on the chrome?

    Thanks

  • Top tube has internal cable routing, so no cable guides. Yes there are a few rust spots.
The chrome is dulled in areas but not rusting.
Spacing is 126. Had no problem fitting 130 hubs.

Better and more detailed photos to follow next week.

  • Forgot to mention, veiwing is available, and welcomed, in Woolwich SE18 5NR

  • Just missed one of these on eBay a few years ago, sad times.

  • Hi,

The basso frames of this era have cable guides attached to the toptube entry and exit holes

    I presume these are lost?

  • Edit: having done a search, it seems that yes, this frame no longer has those inserts (they look like plastic?), what remains is some detailing around the entry for the cable. Nothing has been removed structurally from the frame.

  • Price dropped and pictures added. Happy new year!

  • Price drop £260. Ebay next week :(

  • Were forks ought to be fully painted and have someone removed part of it exposing chrome?

  • .

  • Forks look like the chrome was masked when painted. No sign of any paint being removed. There's quite a wide variation in the paint on these frames; I've seen white / orange ones with no chrome at all.

  • Lovely frame, too bad the paint is so faded but fairly typical-had a Basso MTB in the same colour scheme and the fluoro orange washed out on it too.
