I didn't know that the Open Pro T existed, it must have happened while I was asleep and long after the original Open Pro was brought out, my apologies. You are right about 1Rs falling apart, it was just that the picture on your other thread looked like one on your Gios viewed from the front. I wouldn't object to an ITM or 3T black stem on my Aerodynamic (see earlier in this thread) it came with one or the other of these when I got it from new. As an alternative, Mavic GP4 rims can be found quite easily, everyone used them back in the day, that's what are pictured on mine.

Great bike! I did buy the frame I posted pictures of above, turns out it is a 1986 Compact. I actually messaged the Gios Official Instagram account with the frame number and they came back to me with the year. I must finish building it!

Didn’t need repainting in the end, it’s in pretty good nick. Pics coming soon!

All Compacts had replaceable rear ends, probably quite difficult to find now though!
I would buy that Cinquantenario instantly if it were the right size and take the risk of persuading the seatpost out. I lusted over those in the 90s. The main decals would be quite easy to replace if you had to respray, the 'Cinquantenario' ones less so, but doable.

The GIOS sliding dropouts show up on EBay now and then, and GIOS sell them on their website.
Cinquantenario decals are on EBay too.
No proper Brooklyn-era decals though. They have an XCR model now, with lots of nice detailing.

I was too lazy to check, thus said 'probably'! I had to have the decals for my '82 Aerodynamic custom made.

Finished my 86 Compact with Record 10 speed and carbon wheels, it’s really nice to ride

Nice! How much does it weigh now?
-
• #344
Good question, feels quite light but I haven’t weighed it. Will check later!

We can all take bets on the weight, I'll start with 8.6kg.
Looks great, more fun than up your own arse period correctness. All I might change is the seatpost for something more Italian and the tyres for all black (I prefer that with carbon wheels, although your current ones are normally my go-to tyre!).

Chrome stem and handlebars, with black tape or black stem, black handlebars with white tape? Opinions anyone?

Chrome stem. White tape.

check out the first post on page 13 by Redd. That is chrome stem with white tape. Let me know what you think.
But I am definitely preferring white handlebar tape. But Chrome stem or black? :D

Checked out the pic on p13. Still say silver stem/white tape.
Silver stem looks better with the chrome fork, shiny lugs and silver headset. -

Of course that's just, like, my opinion, man.
Cheers for the comment. I really do like this current setup but I may just try see how it looks with the ITM cockpit.
Installed is not a 1R stem but an XA stem. A 1R would be lovely though. I did have one before but the inner friction part was broken and I didn't want to risk the handlebars slipping and so I returned the stem. Apparently it is common for that friction insert to brake.
Regarding the tubular rims, I think there is also an Open Pro tubular rim available in dark grey, which may be discontinued now.
I'm not really looking for a period correct ride, I just like the look of tan walled tyres on dark grey/black shallow rims :D
Thanks for the Team Kelme tip. My setup is very similar ;)
