  • I personally will not use a washing machine for denim - or any pure cotton trousers, for that matter - having learned the hard way that those ghastly vertical creases can appear even without a spin. This is especially the case with heavier denim: my N&F Elephants have faint lines down them, presumably just from resting in the bottom of the machine between cycles. Same with some ED-55 chinos, which I think had a cold wash and a slow spin (400rpm).

    If you have a bath - or other means by which to wash denim by hand - I highly recommend using it for this purpose. Cold water if you want to minimise shrinkage, hot if you want to encourage it. Drip dry.
