  • I have no idea. I’m just winding you up. I’m no expert on weird old bikes, especially french ones.

  • How about:
    Mavic Cosmic 1st gen
    Mavic 631 Cranks
Dura Ace 7800 for the rest.

P.s. Or 7700 cranks instead of 631 if you want to avoid square taper bottom bracket.
From my experience, the 7700 stis feel cheaper and less precise than both 7400 and 7800.

  • Not sure they'd look better than the currents cranks:

  • Didn't we all agree on full eTap?

  • So this happened this afternoon, just access if there was any further damaged to the bike. I ideally want to get the bike to Carbon Bike Repair this month.

So far learning to do things by myself with the limited tools I have. Don’t have a crank or BB tool remover.

Hopefully will pop over to @Hovis this weekend to see him and his man shed to strip the last bit of the parts off the frame to repair the minor damages and retouch some of the paint works too.

  • Yeah I wanted them flat but the hoods are in a strange position and wanted them for functional than form this time round.

Things might change once I get some new bars on the bike.

  • 9000 is growing on me now, but there is something sexy about being all shiny and black.

  • I already brought it by then. I was just curious about why there was two similar models where they both state they it was KG196. Thank god you clarified for and I got the newer model 😉

  • Definitely like a Sunday best ride, nice to have something that makes you smile when riding. Never ridden such an old frame before so it will be interesting.

Not going to lie, I had to google what was Erocia 😅

  • Why would it kill me? I’m only using this on dry social ride, pretty much similar as a classic car.

  • Do agree with the Mavic Cosmic, they would suit the bike really nicely.

This was purely for trying to keep the bike as retro to the period as possible. But I know with stuff during that period it will frustrate me and probably annoy me in the long term perspective and if I was going to upgrade initially I was going to go for the 9100 but the everyone talking to me on this thread 9000 is starting to be more appealing to me now.

  • Pic not working =/

  • This is a cool thread on the web I stumbled across regarding all the 7400 series:

    https://raleigh-sb4059.com/2017/12/01/shimano-dura-ace-7400-7401-7402-7403-7410-series-road-component-system-1984-1996/

  • I did notice that probably when this bike was built that the rubber bun that sits inside the front brake pivot was missing.

Was thinking is this replaceable, or should I get a the 7403 brake set instead?

  • What powermeter are you getting though ;-)

  • SRM (obviously)

  • pretty much similar as a classic car

    keep the tubs.

  • I know first hand, 23mm works, but with 23mm wide rims. So probably is the brakes.

  • You’re probably right regarding the frame, but for peace of mind it would be nice to get it to near perfection and protect it before I take it to ride on the grimy roads of the UK.

Just whack some JB Weld on it, it will be stronger than the carbon around it and if you're actually going to ride it there's no point being too precious about it. Paying for a full on carbon repair for that on a £1100 bike would be a total waste of money.

    Nice bike btw.

  • ^have to agree... don't fully understand the rationale behind the carbon repair

  • Architect habit of over engineering everything?

To be fair, I have some scuffs and paint chips on my Venge chainstays that i want to get repaired and painted, purely because I know they are there...

  • Works for me?

If the brakes can't take the wider rims maybe you could swap the pads holder for some thinner ones? I'm quite happy riding with older stuff, but I like my modern rims and handlebars.

If you wanted period correct wheels though I'd go for tubs.
