  • We had the same car AND had this exact problem.

Luckily the car was within warranty and the garage we bought it from fixed it...

By wrapping the pipe in electrical tape and then not filling the car with coolant. Cue head gasket failure, long drawn out process of letter writing and threats of court, we eventually got our money back.

We promptly saw the car up for sale at the same garage less than a month later.

  • I absolutely love how patinated/ wrecked that is! It would make such a great daily in that condition without the fear of parking it anywhere!

  • Interesting and impressive. Still not let the idea of an A2 go despite another car inbound. Something about them. Keep us updated!

  • I (for some reason I can't quantify) really want a v40. Turns out the people who bought the house next door (which I still kick myself for not going to at least view) drive a v40.

    I hate them already.

  • @Colm89 @6pt

Can you get a bicycle in the boot of a 3 with the wheels off? And security cover pulled over?

  • you can in an F31

  • Only bike I have to hand has mudguards on (or is a Brompton) so can’t easily check, but I would expect it to based on previous Volvo sedan fiddling.

  • Cheers
    and cheers @swedeee

people want really strong money for the 335i, perhaps understandably, but you can get a lot else for the same money.

Obviously also looking at mature and sensible options autotrader

I can feel my bank account emptying just by looking at that.

In VAG circles, the pipe that goes is known as the death pipe. It has resulted in so many ending in the breakers yard.

  • What do you have? Mine is the AA one. It's maybe the size of an A4 sheet?

  • I can try when i get back from the US on Monday, but I wouldn't be all that confident based on my memory of it. I'd go as far as to say the boot of some hatchbacks is bigger

  • The sunkissed SoCal look

  • Is the megan diesel or petrol? Does the injector have to be coded to the pump/electrics.

    Can it be reconditioned?

Don't bother with ebay, too hit and miss, as dammit said, fakes and ones that have failed quality control and failed returns. IMO just go to a injector specialist. If one is leaking the rest aren't far behind and maybe worth getting them all checked/cleaned reconditioned.

  • Yeah you may have mentioned that...what other engines fit in the A2?

  • Think we should start a little a2 appreciation group so not to bore the living fuck out of everyone else.

Yes I still like them as they are Aluminium and by removing the back seat are a mini van. Minus points it being an Audi...

  • Yeah the mondeo saloon I had several years back would swallow a bike! Madness.

Would be great if you can try, thanks!

Anyway. Will likely pick up a Volvo v70 for 2 grand and smoke about.

  • Mondeo MK3 250 quid and drive till explodes, rinse and repeat ;)

  • I need something comfier. When I drive it's long distance.

  • They are surprisingly good, used to do London- versailles in a 2l diesel poverty spec cloth seated one but still has electric seta raise and lower. Seat and column really adjustable to find the perfect position. Handle quite well too and power steering is really good. Ford learnt alot from owning volvo and Jag.

Non auto route so mainly normal roads with a few dual carriage ways.

  • I would think most euro wagons would get a bike in the boot with the cover closed if you have the wheels out. Even the Fabia estate i had would but i had to take the seatpost out too, but then again it's probably the smallest wagon you can get.

We have had every VW or Skoda wagon going and never struggled to get bikes and kit in with the cover closed, the Superb Dad had would swallow a 54cm road bike with both wheels still fitted.

Have you had a proper look at a legacy yet?

  • swallow a bike
    Volvo v70

There you are. 58 cm road bike with all bits attached goes in no problem. Have owned several, both II and III model, actually liked the II best. Still going strong at 270k kms when my wife tore the side up against a railing and it was written off, boohoo.

  • I have 58cm bikes bought, makes a good difference.
Not had a proper look at a legacy, I should to see how comfy it is.

  • I found the gen4 legacy more comfortable than my f11 5 series, but maybe that was because you had to stop more often to fill it up on long journeys....

  • what other engines fit in the A2?

    None, there being another snag
