  • Based on your times I'd go a small amount finer.

Yeah going to fine tune over the next couple of days. Just burned through a whole load of beans getting to something remotely acceptable so calling it a day for today.

  • Just burned through a whole load of beans getting to something remotely acceptable so calling it a day for today

This is why I make pour over at home

  • haha

    so true

  • I'm not even that much of a coffee fiend; what I just made would probably be poison to you lot.

  • I'm selling a Baratza Sette 270Wi for £230 over at https://coffeeforums.co.uk/topic/49404-sette-270w-upgraded-to-270wi-%C2%A3230/

Anyone interested just contact me on here.

  • I figured if he's happy drinking Aldi own brand instant why bother getting him anything nicer?

Following up on this, gf reports that Lidl Decaf is not as "nice" as Aldi Decaf.

  • @StevePeel, do you have anything on clearance at the moment? I loved the last kilo of yirgachefe you sold me, as did the in-laws.

  • I’ve got some past-crop washed Yirgacheffe Beloya which still tastes great. I forgot I had it waiting to be called-in and started bringing in my fresh crop Guji.
£16.00/kg +£5.50 postage if anyone fancies it. Got about 30kg left.

  • Awesome. I’ll take a couple of kilos, have sent you an email. Cheers!

  • Yes please! sending you an email now!

  • Thanks to everyone who emailed, I’ll sort it all out tomorrow

  • Currently reduced from ~£5 to £1.35 in Sainsbury’s. Stashed a can for emergency.

It is not good. Oh this is really not good.

  • Probably good Brexit rations.

  • Wut?

So you have a cup of instant coffee with a couple of coffee beans at the bottom of the cup?

  • Dialled this in this morning and it’s excellent. Picked it up in Barcelona last week after being impressed by their shop setup.

  • Had some great coffee there a couple of years ago.

  • No, no it's not! I don't really get it; Milicano and Azera have a small amount of microground actual coffee in them and they're quite drinkable. A more expensive slightly less mass-produced product with a bit more microground in it should be better, even by my flawed logic, but it's not. It tastes like Maxwell House. How do I even know that? I wouldn't be able to tell you what that was if we didn't have a big blue catering tin of it sat in the kitchenette at work, because I don't think I've seen the stuff since the mid 1980s. I didn't even know you could still get it, but it's obviously still available in the catering fraternity. It tastes like the 1980s and not in a good Duran Duran Miami Vice white linen suit with no socks kind of way.

  • Silly question, is instant coffee dehydrated brewed coffee of some description, and these x% whole bean instant coffees are instant with some fine grinds added?

I just assumed they were adding back in some waste product and calling it wholebean :)

  • Always impressed with their stuff!

That's what I've assumed it was.

  • My coffee gear bench scales are stubbornly refusing to work after moving house, what are the Forum-Approved™ scales these days?

(I make a couple of cups a day using a Classic, so nothing gold-plated or industrial please!)

  • I was given the brewista ones and they work well

  • Used these when working in a coffee shop which I have no complaints about (the scales, not the working):

    https://www.hario.co.uk/products/hario-v60-coffee-drip-scale

To be honest at home I just use a regular digital kitchen scale (0.1g precision) and it works fine.

Controversial opinion, for weighing espresso in a basket, any old cheap digital scales will do fine as long as they give the same reading every time. "Accuracy" is irrelevant, as long as they're precise. Similar to the discussion on grinder settings a page or two ago where the same grind setting on two separate grinders of the same model could very well differ. It's about finding the settings that work in your environment.

  • How are you making the coffee?
