  • Ah see. Red n black is capacitors!?

  • What kv motor? 😊

  • Dunno, that's not my car.

Brushless 15T going in mine is 2300 or something tiny.

  • Ha. I'll stop asking questions then! 😎

  • Truth, the madcap had such strong arms, they ran the same on the astute at the time as well, Jamie booth did a baller job to win the worlds.

And yes, pretty much everything rear motor these days is basically the XX or the rc10 B2 with some geometry tweaks

  • Yeah, smoothing pots help deal with the sudden voltage Spikes as the throttle goes on/off

  • Question: on the brushless motors, what do the KV and T numbers refer to? E.g on the old brushed motors, 17T referred to the number of turns of wire on the stator, but there’s no windings on the stator on a brushless motor.

  • It’s a measure of constant velocity and refers to the max rpm per volt at zero load.

So a 5700kv motor will do 41,000rpm on a std rc car battery when unloaded

T is an approximation to help comparison to brushed motors

  • Going to add to the chorus of nostalgia with the exception that I can't claim to have owned any of the OG stuff. Oh my god how badly I wanted it all though.

The only time I was suspended from school was having found a cache of paintballs in the local woods, I took them in and sold them to other kids. The school got plastered in orange green and yellow splodges. I was found out, and my mum called away from work to deal with me. She found me in town, in my usual haunt of the model shop by the bus stop having spend my meagre earnings on the 1988 (ish) Tamiya catalogue and an RC Car magazine. Jesus, I used to buy these things.

I had a couple of toys RC cars, and I loved them but never had the spending power to get the real thing. By the time I was able to actually earn money my focus had moved on to guitars and girls. I still hold a deep seated adolescent yearning for a Grasshopper, Hornet, Boomerang or whatever though.

  • Aaaah, ok, that makes sense now.

  • Superb.

I used to buy Tamiya catalogues too.

They were as good as the kits imo. 😎 💪

    Yeah I want the Yamamoto.

  • Grasshopper, Hornet, Boomerang

They're on ebay for decent prices if you're ever tempted. I picked up a good condition, box art, OG Terra Scorcher, with battery (knackered) and full Acoms radio set for <£100 a while back.

  • I've realised my brain is wired for the default video game setup these days. That means right index finger for throttle and left thumb for steering.

Are there any trigger transmitters with the wheel on the left?

Edit: Seen that some are reversible, so the option does exist.

  • yeah they exist but are costly.

std is to use left hand for trigger and right for steering. using one hand only can be done but it's fucking hard.

  • I been using game pads fo time. No problem with trigger fingerz

  • I keep making decisions, then changing mind.

Howard has convinced me that new skool will be more enjoyable/ user friendly than the OG re re's.

Now looking at a TT02b chassis Neo Scorcher, 4wd, plenty of hop-ups available
, Seems to have more fans than the DT03 EDIT: DF03 chassis (Dark Impact, et al) from forum and Reddit trawling.

Just need to either buy it or mute this thread and hope I forget it looks like a riot

  • 4wd get the DT-03. it’s a better car than the neo scorcher which is basically a touring car chassis with bigger shocks. Or if you can find a cheap one the DB-01

2wd get a DT-02 (the 03 is silly and long but does have a better steering angle) or if you can find it the Zahhak.
It’s a bloody awful name and a crap body shell but it’s a cheap version of the TRF-201 which is a serious racing buggy so it handles well and is still sturdy

  • Just fell down a link hole googling that chassis...

    OG mods FTW

  • I'd get a DT-03 or if I wanted some retro points get a Top-Force or Manta Ray with the ball bearing upgrade for the latter.

TBH the Neo Fighters looks like a good choice for a 2wd basher despite Matisse's distaste for the chassis - it's easy to get hold of, cheap and there are loads of good mods for it.

  • Let's face it. Hardly any see a dedicated track. If it swaps ends a thousand times in a car park then prolly stay in one piece. 😎

  • I’d love to do some “vintage” racing :/

  • Hah! No distaste, I’ve had a mad bull before so anything is possible. Just stating the facts.

As for vintage racing, a lot of clubs do that now, but many also state that hard shell lipos are mandatory due to BRCA regs (insurance innit)!
