Experience of these is that bearing tools are spendy. The shop puller / installer kit for my FS bike was £60.
If you find an inexpensive and flexible kit let me know.

If high tyre pressure is faster due to a decreased contact patch and therefore less friction, why are softer compound tyres faster than hard?
Also why is a thinner tyre faster than a thicker one when the road-rubber contact would seemingly be the same -

I think rolling resistance is determined by the amount of energy lost in deforming the tyre, would answer most of these questions. Smaller contact patch = less deforming, soft tyre= supple tyre conforms easier, thinner tyre = less deforming.
I'll wait for tester to explain why I'm wrong.

Yes I thought that but then if a harder compound, thicker tyre deformed less because its much firmer, wouldn't that be less of a loss in energy?
Is an inner tube at 120 PSI within a thin tyre actually firmer than a tyre entirely solid, made from the same rubber compound?

Not an engineer / physicist but isn't it because the bumps up and down that you get with harder compound materials are effectively lost energy - effort is used in pushing the bike up over the object, or deforming the tyre around it. If the tyre is harder, more energy is needed to deform it vs. a softer material which will yield more easily.
Maybe? (I am interested to hear the right answer as that is based on some pretty distant recollection of mechanics / physics 20 yrs ago)

but are they? I'd think softer compound would mean better grip but not necessarily more possible speed

Exactly, that’s why I’m wondering because I’d have thought the same but I do think it makes quite a difference to rolling resistance
I imagine people have bolted all sorts of stupid things on to unused front mech braze-ons in the name of being silly. No idea how I’d search examples though - what have you seen or done?
