  • I've used Shimano Tiagra shifters on my commuting bike for a few years now (~6-7000 miles) and recently I've really struggled to get the gears to shift properly. It has a new crankset, cassette and chain recently fitted by a LBS in September, and I thought this would sort out the shifting. It improved but not really to the level I'm happy with and recently has started getting worse - Push 2/3 clicks for one change of cog, holding in gear when shifting to smaller cogs. Could it be the shifters (or the rear mech)? They're the only bits of it I've not replaced.

  • As above, I'd replace the cables and housing as you may have a bit of cable-fray in the shifter causing drag.

  • Had the same problem, changed the cable, all back to normal. Starting to happen again now so that would make a cable on the r/d shifter last about 7k miles.
