Thanks.
That’s what I tried but it turns out I only really have one speed. I actually felt fine once I’d warmed up.

Is there anything like runcoach but that will work with a HRM? The GPS on my phone has gone funny but I have a bt heart rate monitor.
Quite liked runcoach in general so am tempted to buy another phone.

Often the way. You never feel as bad as in the first mile if a bit stiff or tired and often feel better after than you would otherwise. It is important not to go too fast though, as a general rule always follow hard day with an easy day.

Deadwater
Ooof. Passes near mine on the Canal day, if work falls right I'll come out & clap you past. Enjoy!

Another run in the bag and no ITBS pain...
Wasn’t long or fast but feels like progress.

Almost vommed today on the treadmill. Went to a gym/spa and thought I’d have a go at some hill intervals like I’d tried before I got injured. My gums throbbed and I suppressed the urge to expel the contents of my stomach all over the gym. Fun times.
It’s been 6 months since I got injured, feels a bit mad scrolling through strava looking back.
Highlights of 2019:
Tarsuinn Trail on Arran. Had an ok run with a decent finishing place. This was essentially the straw that broke the camel’s back tho!5:47 mile pb and sub 20 5k. I’d hoped to build on these with more speed work but injury arrived before I got the chance.
Good performances at Helvellyn and The Dodds and Long Duddon. Both in awful conditions requiring navigation (amusing considering the out and back course of Helvellyn, very understandable at Duddon).
Bonus at Duddon was Joss Naylor sarcastically remarking that I looked like I was enjoying rug myself at the top of Hard Knott.Kintyre Way Ultra - my first and probably last Ultra. Not my cup of tea, but cool to do an ultra nonetheless!
Yorkshire 3 Peaks - again, not really my bag, but cool to tick off a local classic in a semi respectable manor.
PB at Ilkley Moor Fell Race. Had raced (poorly) at XC nationals the day before and was fighting a cold. Still chuffed really. Hoping to be back racing by this years race on the 1st of March.
Wandsworth Trog. 20 miles in the snow in February. Was radical. Definitely won’t be in the same shape this year!
I hope I can get back to racing without injuring myself again this year. Will probably try and keep the racing to sub 10 mile courses. With a couple classic Lakes 10-15 milers maybe. Hard to resist when summer rolls round.
Happy new year to everyone in the thread. May your 2020 hold smashed pbs and remain injury free.

Did another parkrun. This time 2038 at Heaton park.
Sub 20 should happen. -

Sub 20 should happen
Definitely. Start closer to the front and try to hang onto some faster runners and it'll happen.

It definitely helps if you have someone with a pushchair snapping at your heels

Even more so if the passenger is giving it baby shark or daddy finger - you know you can’t cope with that for more than 19 minutes 59 seconds

Had a person coughing and uhhinh for the whole run. Couldn't shake them. Also. Sounded like I do when I do "efforts" on the turbo.
Also. "Kicked" at 200 to go. Died with 150 to go.

Heaton park is a good park run.

In my experience, anything approaching 9-10mph is almost guaranteed to induce sleep.
My two used to be fast asleep halfway round a parkrun, even if they had only been awake for a couple of hours.
I used to get passed shoes, socks, gloves, bottles of milk and all sorts.

Ooof
Indeed. Will be an experience for sure.
Passes near mine on the Canal day
They make a big deal about canal day being so hard and monotonous, "Canal Hell" it's called. But I reckon it might be a nice break after some pretty remote secions to have a more urban setting for a lot of the day. Plus I've done my fair share of canal/river path running in my time, haven't gotten bored of it yet, and the navigation should be easy at least!

I've covered a big chunk of that canal day in the other direction, it's a nice enough route.

That'd be worth sub 20 nearby at Stretford, S.Mcr, or Alex Park as all are flat n fast with plenty of folks to pace off.

South mcr on nyd was quick!

Bit of an on-off relationship with running at the moment. Niggly injuries never seem to be far away, and yet I'm pleasantly surprised at fitness levels off low mileage training when I can run. I've managed about three runs and a gym session since my last track session on 17th Dec, when plantar fasciitis struck on my left foot, but decided I was sufficiently niggle-free to get round the Kent County XC champs yesterday.
Result: 44th overall, 11th scorer in a 2nd-place 12-to-score team, and 2nd v45. (There was only one older person ahead of me, a v55 who is a bit of a local legend.)
Post-race result: more hobbling. I'm not completely out of action, but hard running - particularly in spikes - appears to be making the PF flare up, so I'm gonna continue with a mix of easy running and gym/cycling, most likely skipping next week's Surrey League XC and hope it's cleared up to give the Southerns at Parly Hill a decent crack. Bloody PF, it's a bugger! -

Back when I was thinking an arthritis flare up was PF, I looked at those socks which pull your toes up. I never bought them but they looked like they might be useful.
-
• #21475
Those little killer rollers are helpful for PF, and I hate to say it but rest helped me. Plus calf and ham stretches.
Looking for a new pair of running shoes to kick off a year of more running - my last pair of Asics Cumulus are well-used and well-beyond their best. I've suffered with shin splints previously and supinate somewhat.
Aiming to run 5k-HM distances.
Obviously I know google is my friend and there is nothing like trying a pair on but wondered if anyone has any recommendations?
Cheers,
Joe
