  • This bike project has finally been finished but I thought I could share how it started out...

First idea was to build with the Dura Ace 8 speed groupset, where I thought the grey colour of the groupset would suit nicely with the frame colour scheme.

  • I ended up opting for a 9 speed Campagnolo groupset. Record front and rear mech, crankset, headset, Athena skeleton calipers, Veloce Shifters. A bit of a mix and match of Campy stuff, but still looks good to me...
Modolo handlebars and Nitto Pearl stem. I've said it before and I'll say it again, the finish on the Nitto stems are so much nicer than the Cinelli 1A alternatives.

  • The fade handlebar tape looks really cool in my eyes and the Raleigh screw in end plug really finishes it off nicely!

The seat post would probably look better in standard chrome but I wanted to see how it looked with a black seatpost.

  • That looks really nice @billygoat8 The gumwall tyres with black rims is an awesome combo.
I think the Gavina was higher spec than the Aquila, wasn't it?

  • Yes Gavin was 2nd from top .

  • What was the top model?

  • It was the squadra with the SLX tubing

  • @billygoat8 love old brochures! I read somewhere that Concorde frames where built in various places but most regarded frames were built in Italy, by Pelizzoli (or Ciocc?) I believe. Do you know if this is true?

Apparently frames with the number hanger, like on mine, were built from Columbus's racing tubing. Also, not sure if that is true but maybe you have more info on that than me.

  • Yes you are right top end models with the Italian flag on the top tube and number hangers were built by Ciocc.

  • Pelizzoli are still building frames! They look really cool. Especially the Curdomo frame. http://www.ciclipelizzoli.it/road/curdomo/

  • My Squadra - bought off the forum as a single speed. It’s Columbus TSX, and a dogs dinner component wise but helping me get out to do some winter miles.

Not seen the EL-OS ones shown on the second page of the brochure, but do occasionally see the Max frames:

  • @190-215GPa Nice winter bike. I am not sure what tubing mine is made from.

Maybe someone can help distinguish the Columbus tubing used for this frame?

  • @Tonzaman SL or SP most likely (from a quick google 🙂). No idea how you’d tell for certain.

  • Lovely bike! This is a PDM team Squadra I built with a new 105 groupset for my sister’s BF a few months ago, I posted it in the MGOOF thread:

  • The bike is a perfect mix of new and old. Very nice neo retro bike.

I bought the Aquila frame for a "cheap" ride about bike but I couldn't help building it with Campy gear. Concorde bikes are surprisingly good. Especially the Italian made frames. The paint work ooh la la...

  • Thought I would post a picture of my Aquilla.
    I believe the frame is a 91.
It's my understanding it has SLX tubing (recognised by spiraling on the inside of the tubes) and confirmed by a LBS.
I have built it with a mix of Campagnolo Super Record, Record and Chorus components. Parts that were easily available to me at the time and what I could afford.
The rims are H + Son Architype's on Campagnolo hubs with DT Swiss Competition spokes (built myself)
I am just about to swap the stem and bars to a Cinelli 1A and 3ttt Grand Prix bars. I'm not keen on the look and feel of the ergo bend and the reach is a little too long for me.
Currently it has a Selle San Marco Rolls saddle as well.
It rides beautifully and always attracts attention.

  • I think the picture did not upload properly mate. Another try?

  • My Aquila has moved on a bit since the last time I posted a photo of it.

Now it has a Fizik cockpit and saddle. Got a Campy Titanium seat post for it as well, after I did not find a PMP Titani seat post.

I am not a big fan of the threadless stems but they are more comfortable. The carbon spacer looks so bad so I will have a go designing a nice bespoke spacer and 3D printing it so that it the lines are all aligned.

  • So currently this is running
    Campagnolo 10s Titanium Record groupset
But with Athena Skeleton brake calipers.
36H Mavic open Pro rims. Challenge Open tubular tyres
Fizik stem, tape and bars and saddle.
    Speedplay pedals.

  • Nice bike, where did you get the number plate? I would love one on my bike.
