  • impulse purchase, zero feedback so fingers crossed but seller has been good to deal with, agreed price but without Vento's which sadly have a broken rear hub. Have same era Chorus/Open Pro or Record Ti/Open Pro in blue ano so was going to use one of these. Sellers pic, few weeks til I get my hands on it...

  • If anyone is looking for a Super Record Pista, let me know - http://www.lfgss.com/conversations/286951/newest/

  • Very nice. Thx for mentioning.

  • Hei Guys
we are going to build a Gios Professional and after checking there are some things...

Decals not correct, they are from newer models, right?
    What about chromed rear fork?

and, is it from 1986? Because serial number start from 6... ?

  • As seen earlier in this thread, this frame will be up for sale in next few days if anyone is interested in a nice Gios!

  • Just got a call from my lbs. One of his customers is in desperate need of money and wanted to sell him it's Gios Super Record. Seems to be the former 1978 teambike of a racer from the Ijsboerke Gios Torino team. Advised him not to hesitate. ;-)

  • Love to see it.

  • Me too, I told him not to sell it on his turn before I had the chance to have a look at it. It seems to me my size too (55,5 CtC)...

  • Hi guys,
I'm new here and I'm just about to start my first project. Picked up, what I believe to be, a really nice Gios Torino Professional. How would I find out more about my bike if I have frame number stamped on BB?

  • Ask them;

    info@giostorino.it

Marco Gios is very helpful - speaks good English too.

  • Thanks @Jingle_Jangle, I've fired off an email with some pics. I also checked out that busyman you mentioned earlier....wow, my bank manager is gonna hate you

  • It's OK, my Bank Manager hates me too!

  • What else can you do in this weather? Polish the Aerodynamic, don Brooklyn team kit and go for a coastal spin, that's what! 53/42 and 13/23 block, no track mitts and Hawaiian Tropic factor 4 oil, just like it was in 1982....

  • I've had this frame for about 12 years, but bought it already built fixed. Finally stripped it in preparation for either selling or rebuilding with gears. It's way too big for me, but it's also the love of my life. Think it's a super record ('89ish?), but if anyone knows otherwise, would appreciate a little help identifying.

  • Yep, that's a late Super Record, the internal cable routing is a giveaway. Email the frame number to Gios and they should be able to give you a precise answer. Is it powder coated? If so it won't help the resale value. Just build it up and ride it! Decals are freely available on Ebay.

  • The frame in Will's post looks like the internal cable has been added later, maybe at the same time as the repaint. Gios Super Record frames had three guides for the external rear brake cable. With the slotted bottom bracket and fork coins I guess it is an 1981-82 Super Record..

  • Hello all

I thought this was the best place to post this but happy to be corrected...

I wonder if anyone here can give me a bit of advice. I have found a lovely Gios frameset in my size, looks to be in good nick except pictures of the BB area show a few spots of rust that I’m worried go deeper under the paint. See pictures. I’m pretty sure they are superficial but it’s hard to be sure. Should I be worried? I haven’t bought it yet so obviously I only have the pictures to go on, I would really value the thoughts of those more experienced / knowledgeable than me! Hope it’s not too silly a question...

    Thanks in advance

    Dave

  • Nothing there that would bother me in the slightest, I might be tempted to have it blasted and resprayed. Otherwise, see advice on rust treatment elsewhere.

  • Thanks! I tried UTFS but couldn’t find exactly what I was after. I had better make an offer on this frame!

  • It has been some time since someone posted their GIOS on here... My turn..

  • It is a Compact Pro from the 90s, I believe. Swapped out a Record 9 speed groupset and fitted a Record 10 speed groupset.

A few paint chips on the frame, but it is in wonderful condition and I just can't help but to gaze at it sometimes. My girlfriend admitted she is a bit jealous of the GIOS... haha.

  • Lovely.

Don't change the 1R for anything, any other stem would be a downgrade. You mentioned elsewhere Mavic rims, Open Pro is a clincher rim, SSC Blue would be the ultimate tub rim, but no more period correct than the groupset. The De Vlaeminck frame is a Super Record and late 70s or very early 80s. I see no reason you would try to make this period correct, it is great as it is, if you did you should trawl old pictures of Kelme team bikes.
